The seat and the front tyre need to go, but other than that I'm very happy with it so far. Climbs like a goat and it makes a pleasant change to be able to descend with out shaking all my fillings out.

Given that it's not supported at both ends, I find myself wondering about the diameter of the stub axle and how prone it would be to bending.

Maybe a bit less unsprung weight but a whole lot more shear and bending moment on the poor axle.:eek:
I reckon more unsprung weight - need a fatter diameter slider tube to make up for the x2 rigidity.
AFAIK Ducati started the whole single sided thing on their superbikes to make tyre changes faster in endurance racing. Certainly had no other benefits and they've long since dropped it.

No, it is on their production bikes, as well as on some Hondas, most BMW bikes, most scooters, and lots of other motorcycles.

"No" what? You can't refute my point by spouting a collection of unrelated facts.
The (one?) remaining Ducati that runs it most certainly does it for aesthetics; it is not a performance oriented machine.

Cannondale started their suspension design with their headshock, but it became limited when suspension started going longer travel because they only had the space of the head tube and a few more inches to the fork crown to fit the suspension in. Their Lefty enabled a much longer travel shock (150mm? 200mm?) with a single stronger fork blade. The axle structure is much more solid than standard fixed axles (it cannot easily be removed, change the tyre with the wheel on the bike). One larger diameter fork blade should be able to be lighter than two smaller diameter blades, a la OD frame tubing - larger diameter, thinner wall thickness, making it overall lighter and more rigid.
Don't know about performance. How have the Lefty fork-equpped 'dales gone in competition?
