Need a cheap winter hacker....

I seriously doubt you'd get anything for that price from a LBS. Pedal Revolutin in Norwich have
second hand bikes in, but I don't recall seeing anything there that price.

Not being funny here, honest, but have you tried a visit to local council recycling depots??? Last
one I went to had a skip *full* of bikes in various stages of disrepair. It may be possible to
"rescue" a frame?

In terms of personal effectiveness, they'll limit road spray to below the top tube, plus a bit of
blow-back off the front wheel. In terms of social acceptability on a club run, their only benefit
will be keeping cafe seats clean - they won't help your ride companions any.

You will be able to find cheaper (although most road bikes under £75 will be more like 20+ years
old) - but what will it be like to ride? A heavy uncomfortable lump won't inspire you to get those
miles in. Even small things like brake levers hoods feeling bad might put you off.

Local newspaper and shop window small ads are best for cheapo bikes. Place a wanted ad if there's
nothing suitable for sale.

Alternatively, some Norfolker reading this may have a bike to offer you. What size do you need?

Looking for a frame from 22-24 inch.

I checked out Pedal Revolution and they only have stuff in the £x00s :-( - very nice though - just
love that shop!

Yes I take your point about ending up with a lump and i certainly wouldnt bother with with some 10
year old halfords effort with cotter pins and a 5 speed block but there _must_ be literally
thousands of unloved low end decent bikes sitting out there in garages and garden sheds somewhere
that could be put to good use...?

Ive got a fair number of bits and bobs I could swap over to make it more bearable such as a nice
saddle - although I suspect by the time Ive done all this I might as well have paid the £100 for the
Claud Butler... hmmmm

Ive checked these out they dont give much by way of pretection to the guys behind me so I dont think
they are going to be welcome on the club run either.

Logic might make you think that, but I don't think you can say £100 is a 'huge amount of money' for
a bike. If the CB has what you want, I'd say go for it and stop wasting time.

for grabs. At some facilities the council may license totters, they then have first claim over stuff
that can be effectively reused. Totters will be amenable to you having stuff but as they do what

people arriving with old bikes in trailers or on roofracks and then approach them directly before
they dump the stuff.

Correct. Our local recycling facility staff intercept the good stuff & sell it on. I bought a
clunker for a couple of quid recently.

Once stuff is dumped it becomes the property of the local authority (or their agents). Removing it
without paying and or permission is theft.
