  1. Hey guys, I probably should've come on here first, but I just baught a road bike to get me started. It cost me 225 and it's an old bianchi frame with a not-very-oval-mostly-circle biopace. frame mount derailers, new rims/tires/tubes.

My questions is on the handle bars mounted to the head tube. There is a little bit of a shimmy, you can feel it if you hold the tube and pick the bike up - you can shimmy it a little bit and you feel it when you hit a bump. Should I tighten this or is it good to take off some of the tention. I don't have the smoothest of roads and I try to avoid bumps but it's unavoidable sometimes. Anywho - lemme know, thanks much

I would say you're headset needs tightening (if it's the screw type headset that is)- you should be able to tighten it with your hand to see if it is or not - if this stops the "shimmy" take it to a bike shop to get adjusted properly.

hmm...it's pretty tight, I can't tighten it anymore with my hands.

Does/should it have shims between the headset and frame? If so, is it missing one or more. Seems to me like you have some kind of a spacing issue - like something needs to be in that space to aleviate the movement.

Have you taken it to a bikeshop to see what they think? Could be the quickest and easiest solution to the problem.
