New Bike Build check-list?

I'm going to attempt to build the bike myself and would hate to find out in the middle of it that I forgot to get something and have to stop. I want to have "all of my ducks in a row" prior to starting this project so I can just go for it. I've looked online of a bike build checklist but havent been able to find anything.

Run out of money and have to rob junk parts off wifes Fuji?? 🙄 Duno what the point to a Ti cassette is unless you race for a living, and a cassette isn't good for many poseur' points, but you do need a chain to go with it. There is a nice Ti one available ,and would make a perfect match to the cassette. Don't foget bar tape and some nice sparkley streamers for the handlebar ends.

I want to have "all of my ducks in a row" prior to starting this project so I can just go for it. I've looked online of a bike build checklist but havent been able to find anything.

I currently have the FSA SL-K Comp. Crank, and I'm not a huge fan of it. I find there's a decent bit of flex in the crankarm (I think 172.5mm). I just wanted to let you know my 2cents about that one part, other than that, seems like you're gonna have one sweet ride.

It's easy to forget about little things like bottle cage screws and cable ends. You also left out the tires, which are a bit more critical. You might also want to pick up a second frame for when you crack the first one trying to put the headset in.

One item that's not on the list and definitely required - bottom bracket. Unless the crankset comes with it...

If you haven't done this before, I'd suggest you farm out installation of the headset and BB to a good bike shop. Those are two items that are easy to screw up and quite often the end result of error is a ruined frame.

I'd have to agree with badkarma - I rode for an afternoon on a FSA compact crankset and wasn't all that impressed with it. Felt a bit flexy to me, too. Since you're going big bucks and big bling here, why not spring for a bit more and get the carbon Campy crank? It's a work of art. You can get the older weave style carbon crankset at a fairly decent price now.

Plus you need a chain (Campy Ultra 10). Cables for deraillers, too - just buy the complete Campy cable set, it covers everything.

And pedals, if you don't already have them. I ride Campy Pro-Fit, they work as well as anything.

Might need a new wife, after the present one sees what you've done to her Fuji.

Otherwise, have fun. I built my bike three years ago with a new Chorus group, have hardly touched it since then. Except to replace the wheels. And saddle. And handlebars. And saddle again. And water bottle cage. And saddle again...

I was going to have my LBS do this for me (since it's a press fit).

Definetly!!! I was thinking of having it done by a shop...but since your the second reply to say this...I will DEFINETLY have it done by a pro now! Thank you!

I got the FSA on eBay $240 new. Too good a price to pass on.

I would like to get them, but MAN are they expensive! I haven't totally counted them out though. I'm hoping a new set will go up on eBay for a descent price.

😄 The stuff from her bike was taken off when we upgrraded hers with FSA carbon stuff. I'd like to get the Cinelli Ram and the DEDA Alanera bars but it will have to wait for a while (big $)

I don't think my marriage would survive all of that. She's flipping out that I'm spending so much on it now! She's got a good point...she's the athlete of the family (participates in MANY tri's), but I'm getting a better bike.

A headset press costs about $100. Unless he's planning on installing five or more headsets on this bike, he's better off just bringing it to a shop.

Actually the cassette CAME WITH the wheels!!! The guy I bought it from did not think to remove it prior to advertising the wheels and HAD to include it for the price that was agreed upon ($500 for wheels, skewers, and cassette...all 2004).

I do still need bar tape...the streamers I'll leave for you 😉

I plan on doing all of the rest of the install/adjustments...I didn't want to buy a headset press and "stuff" and just use it once (or twice if I screw it up and have to get a new frame).
