  1. hello all! as the header says, i am new to the ng, but not
to ww. i don't know why i never joined this ng before as i
read lots of other. my name is elizabeth, i am 33, i live in
australia with my husband and 19 month old son.

i joined ww in 2001 and lost 13.3kg (29 lb), then i got
pregnant (with still quite a way to go to goal!) & had my
son (who is now 19 months old). since having him in aug 02,
i have been yoyo-ing around my pre-pregnancy weight until i
decided i was going to get serious again with ww as this new
years resolution (this is also when the new "time for
success" program started over here in australia. this is the
    3rd program i have seen!).

so my new total loss this week is 17.9kg (39.5 lb) which i
am pretty proud of, but i have been slowing down over the
last couple of weeks. i have another 6.4kg (14 lb) to go to
goal. well, i'll get to that figure & see if i am happy with
that. i would really like to get to 59kg, but i don't want
to be unrealistic. my other goal is to get to 98cm around my
thighs. they are my biggest problem area and i have a skirt
i used to wear at a thinner point in my life (a decade ago!)
that is that size. i want to fit into that skirt again.

i love to cook and i also love to eat. which would be why i
am at ww in the first place......... i don't like to limit
my portion sizes - i would rather eat larger sizes of low
    points foods.

i am still breastfeeding my son so i get some lots of extra
points for that (i don't think i would be losing much at the
    moment if i wasn't breastfeeding).

i have quite a few challenges with my weight loss. firstly,
being a mum to a toddler, i find it very hard to exercise.
it's not as easy as you would think. i lost the 13.3kg pre-
pregnancy from walking 4km each morning. that's not
something i can do at the moment.

also, my son has allergies (egg & legumes) and as i am
breastfeeding, that means what he can't eat, i can't eat.
although this is a challenge, it is also a positive as i do
not eat out (and lose control of my points) very much these
days. i would love to hear from anyone who has had to deal
    with allergies whilst doing ww.

on the cooking side, my husband works long hours so i cook
dinner for all 3 of us, but leave his in the oven until he
gets home. and i can't feed my son low fat food (as he is
under 2). so, i am constantly trying to find nice recipes
which are not low fat, but won't give me too many points in
my meal, and at the same time won't dry out in the oven and
also do not contain egg (in any hidden form) or legumes.
cooking has been a little tough lately! i have heaps of ww
cookbooks (which i love) but i am getting bored of the same
    recipes over & over.

my last challenge on top of this is that i am a full time
mum (with no daycare or close relatives), as well as working
from home, as well as training to be a australian
breastfeeding assoc counsellor. so time is not something i
have alot of, especially when my day is taken up looking
after & entertaining my son. i have lots of late nights! in
terms of ww, it means that i can be very slack in tracking.
and when i am, it always shows up as a bad week on the
scales. i have a feeling this week will be bad as i have
    been a slack tracker.

i want to reach my goal before we try for baby #2 which
won't be until at least december. so i have given myself
until my 24 nov meeting to lose the weight which should be
do-able. i was losing 1kg (2.2 lb) per week from the
beginning of the year, but it has slowed down over the
past few weeks. so i will be happy if i lose a steady
0.2kg (0.5 lb) each week. that would mean i would get to
goal before november. hopefully i will lose more and will
    get to goal quicker.

okay, if you are still with me, you will notice i write
really long epic posts. i am sorry about that, i do tend to
babble on alot! but i have to go now, as it's time to cook
dinner. (phew, i hear you say!). my weigh in day is
wednesday, so i will keep you updated!

  12. Hi Elizabeth! Welcome to asdww. I don't have a lot of tips
for you for cooking-frankly you have me stumped on that.

I look forward to reading more of your posts. I think you're
doing well with the weightloss, so just keep doing what
    you're doing.

As far as eating lots of low point food...I can completely
understand that feeling because i like to go into munch mode
at times...were all i eat are low point/no point foods like
salad and my latest favorite is sugar snap peas...0 points
for a cup...so if i eat the whole bag i log it as 1 point
    just to be safe...

hello all! as the header says, i am new to the ng, but not
to ww. i don't know why i never joined this ng before as i
read lots of other. my name is elizabeth, i am 33, i live
in australia with my husband and 19 month old son.

i joined ww in 2001 and lost 13.3kg (29 lb), then i got
pregnant (with still quite a way to go to goal!) & had my
son (who is now 19 months old). since having him in aug
    02, i have been yoyo-ing around my pre-pregnancy weight
until i decided i was going to get serious again with ww
as this new years resolution (this is also when the new
"time for success" program started over here in australia.
this is the 3rd program i have seen!).

so my new total loss this week is 17.9kg (39.5 lb) which i
am pretty proud of, but i have been slowing down over the
last couple of weeks. i have another 6.4kg (14 lb) to go
to goal. well, i'll get to that figure & see if i am happy
with that. i would really like to get to 59kg, but i don't
want to be unrealistic. my other goal is to get to 98cm
around my thighs. they are my biggest problem area and i
have a skirt i used to wear at a thinner point in my life
(a decade ago!) that is that size. i want to fit into that
    skirt again.

i love to cook and i also love to eat. which would be why
i am at ww in the first place......... i don't like to
limit my portion sizes - i would rather eat larger sizes
    of low points foods.

i am still breastfeeding my son so i get some lots of
extra points for that (i don't think i would be losing
much at the moment if i wasn't breastfeeding).

i have quite a few challenges with my weight loss.
firstly, being a mum to a toddler, i find it very hard to
exercise. it's not as easy as you would think. i lost the
    13.3kg pre-pregnancy from walking 4km each morning. that's
not something i can do at the moment.

also, my son has allergies (egg & legumes) and as i am
breastfeeding, that means what he can't eat, i can't eat.
although this is a challenge, it is also a positive as i
do not eat out (and lose control of my points) very much
these days. i would love to hear from anyone who has had
to deal with allergies whilst doing ww.

on the cooking side, my husband works long hours so i cook
dinner for all 3 of us, but leave his in the oven until he
gets home. and i can't feed my son low fat food (as he is
under 2). so, i am constantly trying to find nice recipes

I look forward to reading more of your posts. I think

As far as eating lots of low point food...I can completely
understand that feeling because i like to go into munch
mode at times...were all i eat are low point/no point
foods like salad and my latest favorite is sugar snap
    peas...0 points for a cup...so if i eat the whole bag i
log it as 1 point just to be safe...

i've just rediscovered celery. i had forgotten how yummy &
    crunchy it is.

  18. Hi Elizabeth from another Aussie (Sydneysider) 🙂 Here's the
official welcome notice which will get you started, but ask
any questions you need to! You've done really well so far.
I've been maintaining for the last 6 months and still find
the group helpful, so stick around when you get to goal!

Welcome to this great newsgroup where you'll receive lots of
support, advice, and encouragement. Once a week on Sundays,
I post a list of links that newcomers to asdww might find
useful. You may want to look for that later in the week, or
do a backwards search for last Sunday's post.

In the meantime, here's our FAQ:

Here's a short synopsis of the USA program by Joyce -

How many points you can eat is only based on your current
weight, as you lose weight those points allowed will
decrease (logic is that your body will need less to
operate). At 183 pounds and based on the new US flexpoints
system, you will have a set point target of 24. In addition
to this you are allowed 35 flexpoints to be used throughout
the week ... as well as any activity points you earn on a
particular day. When your weight drops to 175, your target
drops to 22 points ... weight reaches 150, target once
again drop to 20 points. 3 servings of dairy of recommended
per day, 5 servings of fruit and veggies, minimum of 6
    glasses of water.

To calculate food and activity points, I love this computer
    desktop calculator ...
    zythra.compoints.exe

The basic plan is easy. Eat at least your minimum daily
number of points. Points do not carry over from day to day.
You are allotted 35 weekly flexpoints to be used at your
discretion ... can divide them up and use daily (would be an
additional 5 points per day) or save them and use them for a
special occassion during the week. Activity points are
earned based when exercising, but can ONLY be used on the
    day they are earned.

If you can afford $15/month, the online ww program might be
a great thing for you to look into. There is lots of
information available, as well as the food point database
    and journaling system.

Joyce WW starting weight: 228.8 - 2/5/02 current weight:
    133.3 Lifetime: 4/4/03

Please note that if you live in onther countries (UK,
Australia, NZ, Europe), the Points plans are different. The
UK and Australia/NZ calculate points based on saturated fat
and total kilojoules. Most of Europe calculates based on
total fat and total kilojoules. The desktop calculator above
can handle all of these programs.

Disclaimer: As an unmoderated Usenet newsgroup, asdww is
unusual in that most of the people who participate are
respectful, considerate folks who freely share their
experience with and knowledge of WW, weight loss, and
maintenance. Yet occasionally, spammers, trolls, and flamers
show up to post advertising, false information, insults, and
the like. Nearly all of the time, people like this are just
trying to yank someone's chain. Most of the regulars on this
newsgroup offer their experience as a suggestion to try if
you're stuck, but are quick to advise that each person has
to find what works for him/herself. If someone posts
something that doesn't sound right to you, ask the
newsgroup, ask your WW leader, or ask your health
    professional.

Much success on your weight loss journey! WW works!

i have quite a few challenges with my weight loss.

toddler, i find it very hard to exercise. it's not as easy
as you would think. i lost the 13.3kg pre-pregnancy from

not something i can do at the moment.

also, my son has allergies (egg & legumes) and as i am
breastfeeding, that means what he can't eat, i can't eat.
although this is a challenge, it is also a positive as i
do not eat out (and lose control of my points) very much
these days. i would love to hear from anyone who has had
to deal with allergies whilst doing ww.

on the cooking side, my husband works long hours so i cook

my last challenge on top of this is that i am a full time
mum (with no daycare or close relatives), as well as
working from home, as well as training to be a australian

i want to reach my goal before we try for baby #2 which
won't be until at least december. so i have given myself
until my 24 nov meeting to lose the weight which should be
