  1. I've been looking for a new MP3 player. My I-River 256 mg has been doing
well. But I want more music loaded without having to constantly change the
music in order to have variety.

I had considered an ipod nano (4 gb), but the reviews said they were pretty
fragile. And an internal battery wasn't something I wanted to deal with.
So I checked into the Philips 4 gb sport hard-drive player.
    http://makeashorterlink.com/?K35E4485C It's a harddrive player, but boasts
    "shocklock" protection for running.

Looked good, decided to buy. Got it home and began to charge it (internal
battery, but I decided to give it a shot anyway). As it was charging, I
flipped thru the manual and spotted the shocklock section. Turns out that
shocklock loads a small number into the buffer (Flash memory) and plays
between 4 and 12 songs over and over. So I would have an mp3 player that
holds 2000 songs but only plays a max of 12 songs over and over (the same
songs) unless I stopped, reloaded the player, then continued.

Yeah, I returned that puppy fast. Now I'm ready for a 4 gb player. But I
don't want a hard drive. Found the Sandisk m260. 4 gb flash memory.
Loading it now. 19 hours on one aaa battery. I'm hoping for the best. Any
experiences with this player? Any alternatives I should check into before
    committing to keep this one?

I wouldn't dismiss the Nano so fast. I've had mine a couple months and
have done a lot of running with it and love it. I think all the idiots
that damaged their were fools that thought they could toss it in their
pocket with the spare change, car keys, etc -- like you can with a
Shuffle. Mine fits perfectly into the small zippered pocket on the upper
    arm of my fleece top.

The one downside: Those touch-sensitive controls don't operate so well
when your hands are covered in gloves, making it hard to switch albums or
tracks on the run. Otherwise, it's excellent to have a huge amount of
music available (disclaimer: before anyone launches into the don't-run-
with-music tirade, I'm an advocated of having it just loud enough to hear
it, and low enough that I can hear the traffic and goings-on around me).

  5. I love my ipod Nano. It is the best mp3 player on the market.
Especially after a got this thing called the nano sports grip. It is a
    wristband for your nano.

Check it out @ www.nanosportsgrip.com . Its really cool.

The iPod nano is not fragile, the problem is that it scratches easily.

I had some old screen protectors left over from when I used a PDA. I cut
one out to fit the face of the nano, and it's holding up well.

  8. I love my Nano - Holds up well to my running, and I have had no issues
with it. I have a case on it so the screen is protected. I even ran in a
rainstorm with it on and it held up. I agree with the comments about the
touch controls and gloves, but I have my best running music in my highly
rated folder and go with that.

I only wear mine on my training runs. Have never worn it during an
    actual race.

I have owned 4 mp3 players and the nano is the best I have found.
