Well I'v been riding a mountain bike, on the road so my uncle gave me his old road bike. It is very old but i can not afford to purchase a new one. I would say its around 20 years old. Its running well, so i took it to a local bike shop and they are going to "tune it up" for 60 dollars. They are also putting new brake pads on front and back. Do you guys think i would be able to race with this bike? I never got a tune up on a bike so do they make it ride like new?

Depends on what they do to it and what sort of a bike it was in the first place. Although it's nice to think 10 speeds are better than 6, they are but not by a lot. Last race I was in there was a guy with downtube shifters doing just fine. Besides having good working brakes is always good, now the bike is rideable so you have something to ride on. And if they do a good job it can run like new, which can be great if it was a nice racing bike. The biggest thing is just to be safe and have fun.
