  1. I was making dinner this evening, and needed a faaaast spag
bol recipe! I also had some quorn mince in the freezer that
needed using up as it's been here a while.

In a non-stick pan sprayed with a little lo fat olive oil
    spray, fry:

1 medium onion, chopped finely (zero points) 3 oz mushrooms,
chopped finely (zero points) half a red pepper, chopped
finely (zero points) 1 235g pack of Quorn mince (2.5 points)
    1 teaspoon smashed garlic

Add each thing as you chop it, up to the mince. When well
    combined, add:

2 tins of tomatoes, chopped or squidged (zero points) 1
teaspoon mixed herbs (zero points) 1 beef or herb stock
cube, according to taste (zero points) 2 teaspoons sugar
    (2 points)

Turn down the heat and cover with a lid.

While it simmers, heat the water and cook the spaghetti.
This quantity make 3 generous portions, for a total
point value of 4.5 points per serving. Not bad, and very
tasty! Remember, this is calculated using UK values:
    your points may vary.

  3. Yes, it's like the crumbles. I've found it at Whole Foods
in the US, and in the "natural" or "health food" sections
of Kroger's. Many people I've met (and some I just cyber-
know) like it, but I didn't care for it. I prefer the
crumbles from Morningstar Farms - which is more widely
    available in my area.

Thanks for the recipe...sounds good, especially for a cold
    rainy day.

If you don't mind, I have another question for you regarding
measurements. Here in the states food labels indicate energy
content using "calories" (technically, kilocalories). It's
my understanding that foods in the UK and Europe are labeled
with both calories, and joules. Is this correct? And, more
to the point, which units do you find easiest to use?

Mostly what we get are kilo calories and calories. I usually
use kcals. Joules only appear on a few things. Remember, the
UK is still slightly different from the rest of Europe!

Another data point for you. In Australia things are labelled
with kilojoules, and only very occasionally with calories as
    well. I love metric

Thanks for the feedback, even though it means more work for
me. The program already has an option to switch between
Imperial and Metric units of measure (kg vs.lbs, etc.).
But, it sounds like "energy" will require a separate option
so folks can use either joules or calories, depending on
    local custom.

I love metric too...and would love it even more if I didn't
have to support all these other units of measure!

Oh, well. Back to the grindstone...

  9. In the rest of Europe (that I know of) we always have
kilocalories and kilojoules on the labels.
