  1. Hey there,

I went to Queenstown New Zealand last year for skiing. The mountains and scenery was exceptionally
    beautiful.

But has anyone done long distance running there - I'm thinking of a smooth hiking track that can be
done in 1 or 2 days or so.

In Tasmania - some people have run the Cradle Mountain track - 80km. I've hiked there - but the
uneveness of the trek - plenty of tree roots sticking out - puts me off from doing a run.

    Cheers,

    CC

  2. well----the frankton track right in Qtown (town out to frankton, along the water) is certainly a
good one for a day. i just ran part of it in december and it was excellent.

Yeah I vaguely remember frankton - its along the way to Corona Peak?

I'm sort of after a wide open plain sort of run. I'm inspired by the running sequences in the movie
Lord of the Rings - many of the shots were done around magnificent Queenstown.

On a side note - have you been to Queenstown Tasmania? Its quite a contrast - the vegetation in the
whole area is dead due to Mining. Looks more like Mordor.

  4. There's loads of tracks down there, try some like The Routebourne (30km 2 night walk, 1 day
run) Milford Track (50km 3 day walk, 2 day run?) or some such as The Heaphy, Hump track, there
are so many down there, probably best to vist the Dept of Conservation website and just pick
    one from there.

Try these, and if you can't find what you're after, give me a yell. Cheers, Brendon

    Hey there Thanks Brendon!!!

I thought I'd try and go down to Qtown NZ during a lull period - inbetween the Summer season and the
Ski season. That's like in March - May? That's a cheap period isn't it?

  6. Yeh, should be just fine, and the weather should be 'in between' also. Not
too hot, and not too cool, before the ski season, but out of the Central
    Otago heat of summer.
Please let me know which runs you do, and how you get on.
Out of interest, the Speights Coast to Coast was on yesterday, and Steve
Gurney failed to win it! Maybe he 'will' retire this year... :-)

    Cheers Brendon

Steve who? I'm sorry but I'm not familar with the competition running scene.

I hope to be able to go - but... it depends on a few major factors - like money. 🙂

Just a little note FYI - the Heaphy track is at the north end of the south island and goes from
collingwood to karamea on the west coast - not anywhere near Queenstown.

That's OK! 🙂 I'll just run south and follow the road - and before I know it - I will be up North.
Just kidding 🙂 Thanks for the info though.

    Cheers!!! CC
