Hey guys, just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. I'm a newbie to Road biking. I grew up on a bike and spent most of my youth on a mountain bike. When I moved back to NYC last year, I decided to switch to road biking since there's really a lack of mountains around here. So I went out and dropped a decent amount on a Kona Jake the Snake and I LOVE this bike. Great thing about it is that it still has a few elements of a mtn bike while transitioning me to road.
I got the bike in august of last year so I didn't get a WHOLE lot of riding in, but now that the weather is warming up here in the east coast, I'm all set to get back out there. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions for you guys.
Yep got the stock tires on it right now. I've taken it out on a trail and they seemed to perform decently. I don't really know a lot about cyclocross tires.
If you want more speed on the street and don't mind a harsher ride, I expect your rims will safely take narrower, slick tires. If you have the bucks, you could even set up a second wheelset so you can switch quickly between road and trail riding.
