I got into cycling only this year and have been accumulating all of Lance's TDF DVDs from World Cycling Productions and Ebay (those DVDs aren't cheap!).
I finally received my last DVD, Lance's first win in 1999 and it was very entertaining , especially the early stages where Cipo won 4 (?) stages in a row ( he later abandoned in the mountains, of course -big wuss pretty boy ).
But the one thing that fascinated me - and I think alot of us amateur riders may be able to identify with - was Australian sprinter Jay Sweet. It was his first tour and climbing was murderous for him, yet he stuck it out after a couple of crashes and even being dropped by the friggin' autobus! The officials gave him a mulligan even when he finished out of the time limit the 1st time.
As a big rider (6'2", 195 lbs), mountains kick my ass, but I found Jay's diary kind of inspirational. Read on if not familar with this guy:
