For the past several years my husband and I have held a Super Bowl party.

Well, back in 1992 I read in a newspaper article about a couple that was serving team-inspired
snacks at their party. That year the Buffalo Bills were playing the Washington Redskins, and this
couple was serving buffalo wings and potato skins as snacks.

I thought this was a good idea, and did the same. Ever since then, I've served hot appetizers at
our party that were themed to the two teams.

Coney Island hot dogs, which you can get nearly anywhere in Detroit, would make an interesting
appetizer. I suppose you could make them and cut them into quarters (bite sized pieces). Very easy
to make: fix the hot dogs and buns, and top with some drained browned ground beef, then some cooked
Hormel chili without beans. Onions, mustard and a slice of american cheese (between the hot dog and
bun) optional. I'd fix them up and cut them into at least quarters. You might be able to make an
appetizer out of this as a variation on the "pigs in a blanket" appetizer where you put some browned
ground meat and chili and onion into your pastry blanket and cook it with the hot dog, and serve
with a cheese sauce for dipping.

Hangtown Fry

This was a favorite of the gold rush folks, the original '49s.

It consists of bacon, oysters and eggs, all scrambled together. For finger food, you'd serve these
on some kind of bread.

Hangtown is now known as Placerville, and is east of SF maybe a hundred miles.

Next time, fish tacos. Ralph Rubio brought the recipe back in from San Felipe and SD became the
launching point. There are now Rubio's all over the place.

Hey Steve. I've been a Steelers fan since the late 50's. Gotta just hang with 'em man.

As for the apps from a Steelers prespective: pierogies, kielbasa and saurkraut sandwiches, fish
sandwiches, if you can find "chipped" ham anywhere for sandwiches.

And for the kids, ya gotta have floats. Vanilla icecream in a tall glass with pop (what you probably
call soda) poured (carefully) over the ice cream - straw and spoon required.

I would use brown bread with the beans, the stuff that comes in a can.

As someone else mentioned, clam chowder. Indian pudding for dessert if you're ambitious. Or Boston
cream pie.

For New York Giants or Jets, pizza.

My sisters travel to Detroit on occasion and raves about the wonderful Middle Eastern food there.
You could do hummos and pita bread, or baba ganoush and pita, or stuffed grape leaves, or any nymber
of stuffed phyllo-type things. I don't know whether Detroit is actually well-known for this type of
food, but my sisters love it!

Okay, having lived in Philly and now outside of it (near Allentown) here is what the Philly fans
will be chowing on.....

Gotta have cheese steaks, fried onions, peppers, with or without sauce. A couple of pretzels picked
up either directly from the bakery or from a vender on the corner of the off ramp of I-95 (any
corner, any offramp). Maybe some scrapple bites (cut it small, okay). Wash it down with some beer -
cheap Iron City if you are hard up enough or some Hank's Root Beer if you are a non drinker. End up
with some of the green TastyKakes put out in honor of the Eagles..... Go Iggles.

Here's to the Philadelphia Eagles, who have a shot. But then again, they not only are always the
bridesmaid, they are often the Maid of Honor at most Super Bowls. -Ginny

For SF, it would have to be on sourdough.

Someone mentioned Klondikes for the Steelers, but the Klondike company is now headquartered in Green
Bay. For the Steelers you could have banana splits since Latrobe, the training site of the Steelers,
claims to have invented those.
