Nice rides by Garzelli, Valjavec, Cioni, and Cunego

Cunego was never really in difficulty, which is particularly remarkable
since he did almost the entire ride with a shiv in his back.

As much as I wanted to see Cioni help his GC it's too bad he pulled
Cunego along. NIce to see Garzelli's legs showed up today.

I was hoping to see Cioni drag Cunego up to Simoni, just to see the look in
Simoni's eyes.

What you probably would have seen is Cunego get it right, today and work
with Simoni to bury Gonchar.

Cunego should not have marked Cioni IMO... first because Cioni was not a
threat to either him or Simoni, and second because that just spurred
Gontchar to ride harder and might have jeopardized Simoni's shot at 2nd
place.

It's not at all clear to me why being behind Cunego would spur
Gontchar to ride harder than just being behind Simoni already was,
since it was Simoni threatening Gontchar's place. Cunego
would have been foolish not to mark Cioni - it's always a danger
to leave GC guys unmarked. Not to mention defending the jersey
from Simoni, of course. And if Cioni had caught/passed the
leaders, Saeco would have two guys up there (subject to their
ability to cooperate).

Simoni should have either ridden flat out to the finish and
conceded first to Garzelli in exchange for the time gap, or
foxed with him a little more in hopes of getting first place's
extra bonus seconds (unlikely given Garzelli's finishing ability).
It seemed like he split the difference, but maybe that was as fast
as he could go after a long hard escape.
