I have a few questions for yall that ride at night. Do you use a light? have you ever been ran over by someone and/or beat by thugs?

The trails I ride on at night are free of thugs and cars. I use a Niterider evolution lite and it works great. Night rides are quite relaxing because I find that you have to slow down to avoid the trees (they seem closer at night). I've been freaked out a few times by nearby coyotes and a mad buck when I rode past his 3 does. -

Umm, run over or beaten by thugs? That will really ruin any ride, day or night. I really try to avoid such situations. I got hit by some 'golf course designer/consultant' driving a Lexus in 03. I had 2 very bright LED headlights on my road bike. The old geezer waited for me to get closer before doing his U turn, swiping my front wheel. Of course he did not 'see' me, LED lights and all. The damage: Scraped knee and shin, nicely cleaned by a NZ nurse working in Singapore $120, slightly scratched Ultegra shifter and brake levers $900. Crashed Sat night, repairs Sun, collected cheque Mon. Rode across a golf course early Tues morning, MTB with big fat tyres.

Adventure racing takes me out at night a good bit. I use an led on the handlebars and one on my helmet. This is all I use for most of the ride. On more technical areas I use a cyclo? NiCad to light up the night.

This isn't related to my night riding post but how do I find mountain bike races in my area? I've been wanted to start racing for a while now 🙂
