No Tour of Virginia Either!

The same problem is occurring with the Tour of Virginia but the problems
look more to be connected to the impending recession than opposition to the
race.

Some states have such beautiful scenery that it would really be a great ad
for them to televise a race that shows the fantastic scenery. Virginia is
certainly one of those states as is Washington State, Oregon and California.
New York could have a nice scenic Tour as well.

Though Connecticut would be hard pressed to find anything more scenic than a
hot dog stand. I think that Connecticut is the only state I've ever been in
where I asked ten people where a good restaurant was and every time was
given directions to a fast food place.

Massachusetts had pretty boring scenery as well though it did have some nice
country roads.

Colorado is nothing but scenery. After riding all day long through boring
desert with hardly a plant it is almost exciting to see a farm in Utah.
Though Texas has such a great spread that they could no doubt put on a fine
state Tour there as well.

I was going to correct you, but, really, what's the point?

I'd take one look at you and send you to a McDonald's, too. Maybe if
you wiped the froth off your mouth, and kept the glasses on so people
wouldn't be spooked by that wild-eyed look you'd get some better
grub. :)~

Not sure what prompted this essay, but when has knowing what the
poster is talking about stopped anyone else on Usenet?
So I'll add my two cents....hey, televising a cycle race so that
people see what a beautiful state we/they have and will want to come/
go visit and spend their tourist dollars is so obviously a great idea
that it's doubly frustrating that no one seems to want to do it. But
I think the WHY there, is that the average Joe Sixpack won't watch
it. OTOH, people watch some really boring stuff: Golf, Tennis,
Bowling, even Poker, for pity's sake. So there must be some magical
tipping point that no has yet figured out.

I'm having trouble imagining that bicycle racing is less exciting and has
fewer viewers than KNITTING LESSONS!

I think that the problem is that the cameramen don't like to move.
