From time to time if I want to save all the messages under a group subject, I will go to google>groups>rec.food.cooking> and enter the subject. It then lists all the postings, and I am able to save them in one Word document.

How does one accomplish creating their postings as 'not archived." I would like to do this. Does one request that all messages under the rfc be non-archived, or is it done specifically on a particular thread that one have chosen?

Add an x-no-archive header to your message. Since many news readers do not allow you to add custom headers, Google also honors x-no-archive on the first line of the message text (see the top of this message for an example)

You're welcome. You supposedly can get them to delete your archived messages, but it has to be from the email address that they were posted under or something like that. That's probably in the Google help thing too.

The problem with 'no archive' is that if the message is in an informative thread it will not be available to any search on the subject. If you are posting to a 'Chump' thread this would be a good thing.

It seems I was interested in doing this years ago, but my answer from whoever, as I recall, was that one couldn't delete messages without the responder or respondee giving their ok. Something like that. Which makes it impossible for a heavy poster like me. Maybe things have changed. I've only changed emails addresses once, tho. Dee Dee

If I had posted into a thread, are you saying that if I googled a word in this thread, say it be "bridles," that any posting in the WHOLE thread would not come up if I researched "bridles," because my particular email was not archived?!!!

Dee, I don't archive my posts. I don't do it in order to eliminate spam from my mail box. I also munge my email address. It's a choice individual posters make. Some servers do not accept the XNA so you can still find the posts. I use XNA for Google mostly.

You're using Outlook Express. Why on earth do you access the newsgroups through Google to begin with?

You can always delete your own messages from the Google archive. However, if someone quotes you and their message is archived, you can't delete that.

Oh, my goodness Dee. WHY???? You can "no archive" your posts from reputable archives like Google, but most likely they won't disappear because Google isn't the only one. To tell you the truth, I don't like x-no archivists, because they do it to make outrageous statements, act totally stupid and not leave a trail... mainly because they're in denial of their "other self".

I have no idea what that is all about... but if you posted a message to the wrong thread or even if you posted something you've regretted in hindsight, you can request that Google cancel it via your regular news reader. I use Agent and I can do it by clicking on "post" then "cancel newsgroup message".

XNA posts will stay on Google for about a week (I think). You can find anyone's posts if you know where to look for them. I don't archive but a trail is always left, expecially if someone replies. That's why I munge my email address too. I have too much email as it is and don't want the spammers invading my mailbox. I have spam block on my email account but many of them sneak through.

I use this free service to get an email address that stops spam (almost) cold. http://www.spammotel.com/ I will get all replies to this address (see my sig line and see the site for more details) and as the addy contains the word 'spam' most of the 'bots' will ignore it. If it starts to attract too much spam (I figure if I get two or more a week (rare) I will change it) - this ability is included with the service.
