You forget the line before about Scotland getting *INTO* the World Cup.
Yep 0K is -273 deg C or -460 deg F (actually -459.7 The site when asked to convert -460 came back with; "Impossible due to the laws of nature." :-) ) -- Phil Cook looking north over the park to the "Westminster Gasworks"

We can't mention that for fear of the Scots telling us about 1978 and 1994. Do I not like orange indeed! -- Phil Cook looking north over the park to the "Westminster Gasworks"

Hell might freeze over but I don't see the second part happening.
I can't see hell freezing over, too many lawyers spouting hot air!
Ah - but it is all relative. I was postulating on the more likely of the two outcomes.
Whether hell would actually freeze over - perhaps you are right. -- Philip Powell Looking north across the Derwent Valley and Northumberland to The Cheviot

1993 would be the time I was in the Westport Bar in Dundee and The Big Game Du Jour was on the box. It was the final qualifier for the finals for England, vs. Sweden IIRC. The cheers each time Sweden netted the ball were room shaking! ;-)

Probably not wise... ;-/
I actually did just what Norman Tebbit thinks immigrants to new lands should do, and support the local team. I started doing this just before the final of the '90 Five Nations Calcutta Cup, simply because the English coach said he'd be "declaring at half time". That struck me as a bit arrogant and didn't wish to be associated with it, so I was not at all disappointed when Scotland won the game.
Though as far as fitba goes, I don't care that much for it really and will not be glued to the TV for the coming fortnight, and wouldn't be if Scotland were in it either.

In 2000 we were walking in the Queyras, on the French-Italian border. The route took us across and back so we changed sides regularly. We saw the final which was France-Italy on the Italian side. They seemed to be winning until the very end, so the pub was filling up ready for the party and then it all went wrong...

The 40 method gives -273C as -459.4F (As does the 32 method) but absolute zero is not exactly -273C. My reference says 273.15C (459.67F) but they have probably moved the goal posts since that book was written.

It would be nice for the English to give Scotland the same support, but they aren't good enough. -- Gordon Harris

You'd better not come over here then ;-)
"Do I not like orange." Is a quote from Graham Taylor a former manager of the England side. He came out with it during the 1993 Holland vs England game whilst he was being filmed for a fly on the wall documentary. This was the game where Ronald Koeman fouled David Platt when he was through on goal and only got a booking instead of being sent off. A few minutes later Koeman scored Holland's first goal. :-(
The notorious 0-2 defeat in Rotterdam in effect saw England's hopes of qualifying for the 1994 World Cup vanquished but the Three Lions got their own back three years later when Terry Venables' side 'out-Dutched' the Dutch, winning in style at Wembley during Euro '96. -- Phil Cook looking north over the park to the "Westminster Gasworks"
