I am new to road biking and have just purchased a new trek 1.5 and have been riding for about a week now. i was fit for the bike when i bought it and it was done at a reputable bike shop. My question is what should i do when my hands go a little numb. i try diffrent hand positions and this helps for a mile or two then it starts again. should i take the bike back and get refitted? and yes i do ride with gloves.

Sounds like you might need some fine-tuning on your fitting.
How long did the shop spend fitting the bike to you?

they spent about 30 min. -
Fit ,riding style hard to say for sure. How does your saddle feel to you? If it is uncomfortable you may tend to unknowingly shift forward to relieve the pressure.

don't think it's the saddle, i broke the first one that came with the bike the first time out riding. the store replaced it with a much more comfy saddle and quite expensive to. when being fitted they replaced the stem with a longer one, could this be the problem? could i be to stretched out foward?

That is a possibility. If you are stretched passed the point of being able to apply adequated weight on your sit bone.
