I did some XC Off road in the lake district today. That 15 miles was harder than the 60+ I did riding roads a feew weeks back. It showed me how unfit I really am, not to mention how much I've forgotten about MTB'ing.
Only (!) had one off, whilst hurtling [1] a downhill section which was all rocks the size of two manly fists for some reason my front wheel hit one such rock and stopped. Immediately. Of course Gravity then gatecrashed and chucked me over the bars - fortunately into the grassy/bushy area down the side. No damage to the bike, but I banged my knee and ribs which still haven't forgiven me.
There will be a RR and some photo's soonish. Maybe once I've had a bath.
We've just done one of those as well - you didn't pass a bloke with a wrist in a purple cast did you? (me) Needless to say I wasn't hurtling down the hills but taking them rather slowly, and wondering what the hell I was doing up there in the first place! Didn't fall off though. Cheers Colin

I don't recall, however we were in the "Claife" area - western side of Lake Windemere. If you saw us you probably thought "what's that long haired fat git doing with all those super fit skinny folk?" <grin>

Photo's and RR still to follow.
i think i'll wait until next spring to get ANY photo's of me on a bike!
also, i do wonder what i must look like to people as they go past ... i should think i appear on their view radar far in advance of a fit skinny rider so in some ways its an advantage!!!

I find large shop windows on the other side of the street perfect for determining exactly that. The news is not always good. It would however be *much* worse if I dared wear any of the usual cycling gear with dayglo colour schemes etc!
Oh, and you might want to consider taking some photos of how you are now, even if you don't publish them, just for you to compare with in the spring time - self gratification and all that. Oooer!
We cycled Keswick to Threlkeld, then up to Skiddaw house and back down the Cumbrian way. Pretty hairy doing it one handed - did quite a lot of walking downhill bits the worst. Cheers Colin

yeah, good idea that ... the 'ole before and after pics - might do that with one of those cheapie cameras and take a pic per month until then and get them developed next spring ... do those camera's keep for that long or once you start using them do they go off ??? (not much of a camera buff either!!)

Great shame that Skiddaw House is no longer open - always looked forward to stopping there for a cuppa when I cycled that route.
We stopped and ate our pasties there - or rather shared them with the midges! The door was open and there was a note inviting one to help oneself to tea and coffee - couldn't find any water though. Cheers Colin
