So, on another forum, elsewhere, there's a thread wherein people post pics from their ride that day (or, I guess, a recent ride). It's a pretty cool way to see where people are riding, where their from, and so on. Maybe it gives forum members a better idea of who other members are, while at the same time possibly adding to a sense of community. At any rate, I think a thread like that, here, would be pretty cool. After all, we see pics of each other's bikes, but we don't typically see the important thing: the riding.
I'll start. The pics were taken with my cell phone (I'll be damned if I'm going to haul my SLR around on the bike). The ride is a weekly, sometimes twice weekly, ride up Tumamoc Hill. The hill--known also as A-Mountain--isn't terribly tall but is great for doing intervals/laps. The grade averages about 5% with ramps up to 9%. From base to the summit of the road is only 1.5 miles and elevation gain is over 400 ft. In the morning, before 8, no cars are allowed on the road. The reward for the climb is quick descent with great pavement and sweeping turns. Pedaling hard you can easily hit 45 mph....not bad for a hill that's just about 1-1.5 miles from downtown Tucson.
Alas, Tumamoc Hill is blighted by the fruits of an ugly American tendency, especially in the mountain states: to build and paint giant freakin' letters on mountains.
The pics of the road were taken just before the descent. I've even included and up close and personal self-portrait. Yes, once again my bike needs cleaning.
