got too many bikes but this doesn't count as its got one wheel, not two)

The Muni 26" pictured was =A3120, it's only gone up a fiver since. I got=
=20
the Muni as the place I ride it is pretty rough, so the bigger wheel=20
(20" or 24" seems more usual) appealed, plus it's built to last. Any=20
LBS that can get a Pashley should be able to get you a Muni.

You can pay less for a slightly less robust uni, or a whole lot more for =

Titanium exotics! Have a look at http://www.unicycle.uk.com/ for some=20
idea of what's out there (note that "Muni" is a Pashley trade name, but=20
it seems to have been adopted by others for a general category of unis=20
better able to do the rough stuff).

I got going with a mixture of tips from the web, patience and=20
bloody-mindedness. It's quite odd, but very good, having riding a=20
/whole kilometer/ fill you with a huge sense of achievement!

The Pashley Muni is an excellent entry level Muni. For buying unicycles
my recommendation is <URL:http://www.unicycle.uk.com/>. They've got a
good selection to choose from.

I keep reading good things about the Nimbus (bit more expensive,
though). The DM ATU is a beautiful machine, but rather expensive.
Ditto for the carbon fibre Muni - the light weight makes it a joy to
ride, but 700 quid is a bit more than I can spare.

Whatever you go for, ask what tyre it comes with and consider upgrading
if Roger recommends it. I don't know what tyre is currently standard
with the Pashley, but the one that mine came with was [censored]. Upgrading
to a Gazzaloddi made a huge difference to the off-road handling (not so
good on-road, though).

If you're interested in reviews, it might be worth searching the
archives of rec.sport.unicycling. There's also a review forum at

I'll second that. When I got my Pashley Muni it came with a tyre that had
quite a large ridge around the centre. This made it very difficult to
balance and keep in a straight line. When I posted a question about my
problem (not mentioning the tyre) to rec.sport.unicycling Roger came back
very quickly with the suggestion to get a new tyre. It worked.

Know that feeling... what I did find encouraging was the extent to
which I hadn't really lost anything in the layoffs, even at the /almost/
completely hopeless stage.
