I have a GT LTS-5 mountain bike that I purchased from a friend about a year ago. I've done some research on the 'net and have learned quite a bit about it, including the fact that parts are now hard to find for it as it is discontinued. It has an elastomer shock in the rear, which I discovered the other day has begun to rupture (neatest thing, the inside of the otherwise ordinary-looking shock is filled with a solid green goo). What are my options for replacing this shock? A GT rep suggested that a Fox Vanilla shock might work, but how would that be adapted to fit the mounting system on the LTS-5? If a conventional shock could not be used, where might one find a replacement elastomer shock? I really like the bike and frame design and hate to give up on it, so any suggestions would be more than welcome.
