OS maps on Multimap website

I noticed this too - I've already completed Multimap's online survey
to complain about it. I told them that I would be switching my free
online map usage to Streetmap (for "pink" maps), and will continue to
use magic.gov for "orange" maps. Unfortunately neither of those sites
will help you with your programmed maps.

Maybe if everyone on this group complained to multimap they might go

Hi Anth,
Just wondered what your objections to the revamp are? I didn't think
it looked too bad, especially if they follow up on their intention to
add back the search by OS grid reference.

It didn't work in my usual browser (Opera 8.54).

I then tried it in an alternative browser and couldn't see how to get an
OS map. (This was before I saw your tip about how, which I've not
tried.)

Putting obstacles in my way like this is bad web design. OK, I dare say
I could probably overcome the obstacles with a bit of effort, but if
it's easier to use (say) Streetmap instead then I won't bother.

Simon - I couldn't find how to get OS maps on it without going back to
their old site (haven't tried your method yet).

I would agree that the speed of the site, plus the zooming in and out
and moving functions are very easy to use. But without easy access to
OS maps and ability to search by GR, it's no good at all to me, so
they'll need to do something special to tempt me back from Streetmap.

Pity there's no online site where you can get decent size colour 1:25k
maps for free. A site doing that would certainly get my custom!

Simon - I've just noticed that Streetmap has a new Beta test version -
marginally better navigation than their old site, but it does
automatically produce a link for the given map at the bottom - is this
of any use to you?

Hi Anth,
Thanks for telling us about the Streetmap Beta version. I like the
Drag Map navigation and the Large Map option. My only complaint would
be it is quite a big jump between scales. The new version of Multimap
cheats a bit by showing you the same map from OS 1:50k at 3 different
resolutions, but this is quite useful. My website already lets you
choose which maps to link to (Multimap, Streetmap or Getamap, which
you can select via the Show Preferences link on any of the map pages,
e.g.

I just generate the links from my database. I'll have to change my
code to point to the new versions of Streetmap and Multimap.
