I always pictured Texas as dusty and bone dry. It's been so hot and sticky
humid all summer. It's just started to cool down to typical Autumn weather.

But I rate Florida as the most oppressive weather. Five minute downpours
out of a clear blue sky, three times a day?!! Even alligators would sit by
the pond cooling off with their jaws wide open.

You want some pine needles and cones? I'll send 'em down. I'll even toss in
a few boxes of fall color leaves for you to wax paper together, FREE! ???

What would you like in trade? <G>

I can actually drive to Bastrop tho' (about a 1 hour drive) for pine
needles and pine cones. I have to drive a lot further for fall colors
except for the local white oaks.

You know you live in Texas when you measure traveling by time instead of
miles. ;-)

They Glorify West Texas (the edge of the Sonora desert) as being normal
for Texas. Nothing could be further from the truth! There are pine
forests and lakes about 60 miles to the South East of me.

Those pics were taken about 5 miles West of where I live.
An area down RR12 known as "Devils Backbone".

There is a spring fed river running right thru the middle of town...

In all honesty, my picture of Texas comes from the one time we drove
through the Texas panhandle. It was a bone dry and dirt from end to end,
with the sun in our eyes all day long (west). A "middle of nowhere"
experience.

We were long-haired teenagers and pulled into a gas station and an old
geezer pumped gas and asked us "you boys goin' honky tonkin' tonight. We
didn't know WHAT he meant but we nodded and said "yep!" He chuckled,
probably thinking "dumb yankees!" Which we were. LOL!!!

But there are a few. In 20 years in this house, I've only ever had one

My favorite was when he and his friends once tried to dry some fresh pot
