  1. Anyone using any extra precautions next week? I'm always extra aware
because of the significance of the dates. April 19th was the start of
the Revolutionary war, had the first KIA of the Civil War, Warsaw
Getto Uprising, was the day of the Branch Davidian fire at Waco, the
bombing of the Murrah Federal building in OK as well as a number of
other historical incidents that might incite nut cases i.e. removal of
the gold standard, Protestant Reformation, my favorite, the defeat of
the Spanish by Sir Francis Drake (did a paper and a speech on him in
high school) etc. I should also note that this year's April 19th will
    be Buddy's 3rd birthday.

April 20th brings us [censored]'s birthday as well as Muhammad's
(interesting) and the Columbine massacre. There's really not a lot
going on on the 20th but it's enough to give one pause because it's so
    close to April 19th.

I'd wear 3 condoms when you hump Curts [censored].

Do the planets line up on those dates or something? Good day to stay
    home.

Wow! Thanks for the informative post about the potential for danger.
Also April 19th is the birthday of Al Unser Jr. Be careful crossing the
    street.

Personally, I'm flying that day. I vote for peace & quiet!

So we can pray for A) a suicide hijacker, or B) a plane malfucnction
    and ensuing crash.

    Nope, the 19th.

    My bad.

How's the tax season treating you?

It utterly sucks. I screwed up my scheduling and ended up working 7
days a week. I've got a new receptionist that I'm not allowed to murder
and can't afford to fire, and so I'm trying to stand her. I badly need
a vacation and have something like 14 people left to put on extension
    (or finish up.)

I think my IQ has dropped 20 points from sleep deprivation.

    I've got to pay
in more this year than I did last year. My April 15th resolution this
year is to do much better tax planning for next year...this year.

Are you self-employed? Not paying quarterlies is an invation to IRS-Hell.

It'll all be over soon. You've only got three days left.

Take scuba lessons if you haven't gotten certified. I'll meet you and
your hubby for a warm water dive somewhere:-) I'm planning on going
to the Keys around Labor Day to do some lobster fishing/diving. I'm
doing my pool certification the weekend after Masters Nationals and
then doing the open water cert Memorial weekend.

No, I have a spouse that makes 1/4 of what I make and pays about 1/10
of what I do in taxes. The IRS does want me to make quarterly
payments but I figured with them taking 20% of my tax burden on one
paycheck last year that the issue would be moot. I was wrong.

Ah, this is easily fixed. Withholding tables get screwed up when one of
the salarie is so small that she wouldn't be liable for taxes if that's
all she made. That paycheck can't see your paycheck.

The solution is for her to fill out a W-4 saying "Married but withhold
at the higher single rate" and then claim 0 exemptions, and then have
extra taken out each paycheck. If you owe $500 at year end, have an
extra $10/week taken out. If you owe $2000, have an extra $40 a week
taken out. You can download the form and just hand it in at her work.

We're already 1/3 of the way into the year so it won't totally fix 2006,
but it'll make it less sucky for you.

Oh, I know all about this. She just can't get it through her head
that it is HER that owes the extra tax.

I see this alot. It's usually followed by one of my pet peeves: the
wife says, "if we weren't married I'd get all sorts of earned income
credits." Uh, yeah. If you weren't married AND WERE POOR. It's not
that you got married that screwed you up for welfare benefits, it's that
    you're not POOR anymore.

You've met my wife...although she says, "I used to get all my taxes
    back".

That's because she never noticed the whopping 15.3% flat tax on the
first 90K of income. It's amazing how invisible it is to people.
