Yes, there's nothing new about people getting slopped up on alcohol. There
are of course these famous Hogarth paintings to show this is has been going
on for centuries.

Our modern news media seem to think that hurricanes, floods, alcoholism,
murders, yobs, robberies and so on are products of the modern age, but in
reality we live in the safest era of all time. I had to laugh when some old
bloke on the local radio said that there wasn't all this violence during the
war!
As for a beer belly there isn't really such a thing - I'm still waiting for
one and I've been drinking beer for 30 odd years :-)
