I now have 2 scraped up, throbbing knees and I'm [censored]. I swear, if they
don't have that ice cleared tomorrow I'm gonna go up to one house and cram a
shovel up their ass and go to the other and shove a bag of icemelt up there.

The city I'm from better clear the public sidewalks because the
homeowners sure as hell ain't gonna do it. They salty the roads,
they can salt the sidewalks, too.

I never heard of keeping your public right-of-way sidewalk free of
ice, let alone getting fined for it.

Me too! I was kind of like, what, ice? Huh? Then I realized most people

been SOL if you walked in front of my house. Having said that, we
don't have sidewalks.

I don't know how older people are supposed to clear their walks. I
have a whole new appreciation.

Apparently from the morning news, there is a serious black ice issue
out there this morning, where I live. Accident city.

You miss quite a bit then. We had a moderate snowfall on Friday and
this was what the street looked like on Sunday.

It's the law in minneapolis, you're responsible for the sidewalks. You have to
keep them clear and free of ice and snow.

I don't know about other cities, but minneapolis has a program that the
elderly can call and set up shoveling service in the winter and basic lawn
maintenance in the summer. I think it's at a super low fee or something.

A lady at the dog park had some of those on. The dog park itself has turned
into one solid sheet of ice from one end to the other and I have to call on my
SUPER PENGUIN POWER to walk there.

Same in my town. If you have a sidewalk, you have to maintain
it, including ice and snow removal, in a timely fashion, too.

I notice that folks in your neck of the woods do shovel their walkways.
by 2 days after a snowfall, it looks pretty dreadful around here.

Or... even though I AM a animal lover... While the weather is bad..
let the dogs [censored] and [censored] in your own yard..
That way you don't have to worry about other peoples sidewalks..
It doesn't matter much this time of year.. but during the spring and
summer, having dead flowers and urine burnt grass..
(I don't think they've developed a way to "pick up" the urine yet..)

I wouldn't mind ONE or TWO dogs paying a visit... but once one dog
leaves his email... all others want to send a reply....
But then again.. I'd rather you bring the dogs by than let the kids
run loose.. (humm I wonder if we can get a leash law for KIDS)

Thats how it works in every location I know. You don't own it but you
have to maintain it. Typically they also pass laws that a fine will be
assessed if it isn't cleared so many hours after the snowfall.

Did anyone ever stop to consider the possibility that an elderly
person/couple may live in some of these homes of which you complain?
So you say: "hire someone to clean it up!!"
Perhaps due to rediculously high heating cost, those who physically
can't shovel their walks also can't afford to pay someone to do it.
How about taking a walk through your neighborhood and find out WHY
people aren't shovelling their walks instead of calling the law on

Actually, the city does it, with small sidewalk removal vehicles and
later with large ploughs. Here is the city schedule and we don't get
as much snow as Québec (city) does.

Residential sidewalks are ploughed after 16 hours following a 5 cm (2
in.) accumulation. Some years ago, this schedule was non-existent and
consequently snow accumulation was a danger to all. One year, I fell
four times trying to get to the bus. Now, it's only if there's
freezing ice that the sidewalks are dangerous and they will spread sand
if it doesn't melt because of the weather.

Around here you are required to clear your sidewalks within a certain
amount of time and to keep them clear of ice and snow. I don't really
understand that because sidewalks are on city property, but they make
the adjacent property owner liable. My brother lives on a short
circle. There is really no need to even have sidewalks, but the city put
one in along his side of the road and it goes only as far as his
property. So when it snows or gets icy he and the other three homeowners
with the walk are responsible for cleaning it. Meanwhile, living on a
circle, their street is at the bottom of the list of priority for
cleaning. It is possible for them to be charged for not clearing the
sidewalk on a street that has not been plowed. That sucks.

People are funny about clearing snow. I used to live in a fourplex
apartment that shared a double driveway with the fourplex next door. I
was the only one who every shovelled the driveway. Of course I only
shovelled our half. No one did the other side. And then the girls
upstairs would park in the part that I had cleared.

I know live on an opened road allowance. It is about 100 feet from my
parking area to the main road. My neighbour lives about 300 feet further
back. I have a 12 horse snow blower. He has a tractor mounted snow
blower. That SOB will never get out and clear the road allowance first.
He has to go past my place to the road to turn around, and with a
tractor like that we are talking an extra 5-10 seconds each way. I go
out and clean out my parking area and the road allowance from there to
the road, and like clockwork, as I am finishing he comes out with his
tractor.
