OT: virus stuff

Yeah, I'm getting a whole bunch of them myself...deleting them all, of course--probably about 100 or
so thus far in the last couple days.

100-150 a day. The last one that came out was worse for me, about
200/day. Both of them scan multiple file types on the infected user's hard drive extracting email.
This includes cached web paged with email addresses in them. So those of us with web sites and
lots of google hits get it worse than most. Think of all those people who visit your site to
read your killer swim workouts!

Me too. I've received about 150 today supposedly from Microsoft with alleged windows updates
attached. I just keep hitting delete.

OTOH I couldn't fall for it if I wanted - I use a Mac.

Aaaargh! I got 210 overnight, more than a thousand yesterday! I had just put up a new page of my
saltwater tank, and for the first time included my e-mail, so that could have increased the number.
Fortunately, they're exe files and don't open on my Mac.

You are lucky. I get about 150 in an hour. What's with that? And how did you luck out at only 150
per day. No kidding, I can sit here and just hit the get mail button, and get 4 messages at least
each click.

I update my anti virus several times a day, and still got 2 worms today, that were running loose and
sending information outwards. One couldn't be quarantined, and I had to go through the procedures.
Then I updated again, and got another one, with the same name, however this one was easily
quarantined. Since then, I have only had 52 new messages.

I use Norton Antivirus. I would check it out, I think that's part of the worm.

can go and look/delete at my leisure.

I have had over 2,000 of these this weekend. Yes, I said 2,000!

Many are bounce backs from other servers - bad addresses, their own filter blocks, etc. This thing
is really tieing up resources.

real problem was that they were all about 200kB in their raw state. I resorted to telnetting to port
110 on the mail server and blindly deleting everything about that size, whatever it was!

Just keep running your virus scanner and virus scanner updates. also make sure you run all the

AAARRGGHHHH....

My provider has this pay-extra-service where they clean virusses in emails before they get to your
computer (anti-virus and anti-spam). Great stuff! Now I don't get 200 emails per day. I get 400: The
original email with the virus removed, and an extra mail telling me the virus was removed. I pay $
1,5 a month to make my problem twice as big. Long live "TELENET" in Belgium !!!!

PS1. My computer is not infected, I just keep receiving mass emails from I-don't-know-who.

PP2: Being a good virus is all about aerodynamics. You gotta slip through.

There's a lot of viruses around at the moment because they're started as if from Microsoft so people
open them.

We're currently receiving about 500 per day - it's nothing to do with this group though.
