Guys,

I have a front Marzocchi bomber fork with a front disk brake, it does have lugs for v brakes though.
Rear is standard v brake. I wouldn't really bother but I'm upping my distance for my trips and the
backpack is giving me a sore back after a while. 🙁

My frame is similar to this one:

On a more serious note, depending on how much luggage you need to carry, there are racks available
that clamp onto your seatpost. Some of these have vertical bits to prevent panniers from swinging
into your wheels. Wiggle and Halfords both have them.

How much space do you need? an SQR bag that sits behind the seatpost may well be enough for the job,
and even if it doesn't take everything at least you can put the heavy bits in it.

I don't see why. The Carradice rear panniers would fit. But consider also a one-wheel trailer. When
I was an academic researcher having to travel around the country with my research equipment, clothes
for a fortnight and sometimes camping gear as well, I used a racing bike with a two wheel trailer
called a bike hod, which I think/hope is no longer made.

The benefits of a trailer are

* The weight is off the bike and generally doesn't upset the bike's handling

* By undoing one clip you can take the trailer off the bike and have a nice light fun-to-ride bike
back again

* When lugging it on/off trains you have two reasonably light bits instead of one
excessively heavy bit

* It's more capacious and will carry more stuff/weight than any collection of panniers

* A trailer is more visible and odder for motorists coming up behind you, and they tend to treat you
with more caution.

The downsides of the bike hod where

* it used golf trolley type wheels with 'sealed' unrepairable
bearings, which weren't up to sustained high speed road use

* on fast downhill corners it had a tendency to capsize, which was disconcerting, but never caused
me to fall off the bike

Modern one-wheel trailers such as the BOB Yak would seem to solve both these problems:

These guys make racks that will fit suspension bikes. I have front and rear disk brakes with a front
suspension fork. Their stuff is top quality, although a bit expensive for some.

Beware the seatpost mounted racks. They oscillate from side to side unless you have a very smooth
pedalling style and make contact every now and then with the tyres. They also have a 10kg limit.
