Panniers and racks wanted

Whereabouts are you? I scavenged a rack off an old bike, rusty, but i
might be able to fix it up and give it to you (free of course)

I can't help with a 2nd-hand rack, but the Blackburn "expedition"
racks are very good value for money. From memory they are
about $50 (check the phantom cycles website). They are a solid
aluminium construction (rather than tubular), and managed
to handle the excessive weight we loaded onto them.

I would have purchased them again for the tandem, but at the time
there was some problem with the import/supplier. AFAIK this has
since been fixed.

For panniers, maybe you could get some low-cost saddlebags or
suchlike from a disposals store. Use rubbish bin liners for
waterproofing, and they might be fairly servicable.

Try Melb Bicycle Centre in Clifton Hill, I think you can get a cheap set for
under a $100.
