Went to the yearly holiday bash at Diane's 2 doors down last night. I made
a bunch of parmesan crisps to take and a bowl of the confetti dip Barb
posted a few days back, with some crackers. There was a ton of food. The
most memorable thing I tried was a phyllo triangle with a lemon filling.
The filling was not sweet, it was savory and Asian. Fantastic. I pretty
much stuck to the healthier stuff and avoided the usual mini smoker in BBQ
sauce wallowing in a crock pot and the nacho cheese dip stuff. I stuck
with the crudites and dips along with a few of the other more unusual
items. Someone brought a plain old tray of pastrami, cheese and rye bread.
It was the first to go. There were spinach puffs (very good and I got the
recipe for them), stuffed jalapeno peppers. There were things I could not
identify. The chopped liver Dorothy brought was just okay. Not her best
effort but decent enough. She made me bring the leftover home which I
polished off watching TV. I found it fascinating how drunk people get at
these things. I was always the one that got drunk first. Since I no
longer drink, I get to witness the transformation. It is amazing and takes
just about 2 hours. At least no one had to drive home. I'm thinking that's
why people were so lax about their alcohol intake.
