crybaby. If she can't win, she quits the race? That's the person you're
hoping for Doug?

You're the favorite and you quit a Marathon, the Olympic Marathon because
you've slipped to 4th place and there are only 3 miles to go...you're pathetic.
And then you cry? You're the favorite, and you quit the 10K, The Olympic
10K with only about 3K-4K to go....because you're not winning....you're
pathetic. And then you cry again?

Doug, do you always root for the poor sportsman, the crybabies, the
primadonnas? Paula Radcliffe in Athens represented the worse in
athletes...TWICE! By quiting with no injury, purely because she was not going
to win, she let down athletes and admirers all over the world.

All she had to do was give her best effort for 3 more lousy miles....but no.
People wanted to see her cross that Marathon finish line. She failed her fans
and nation...and her sponsor(s). Paula had an obligation to finish these races
people. But her ego and pimadonna soul can't bear not winning?...so she quits?

Speaking of which...is why Nike has not closed the deal to resign her again.
Oh..she might get another Nike deal...but let's be honest. She released a
statement on Tuesday saying she's running NYCM becaue NIKE told her she better
have her ass there if she wants any hope for a new contract. That's the real
story. Can we be honest here?

Paula was considering running in the Tokyo Marathon on Nov. 21...all September
and October. She and her agent/husband/trainer got the word loud and clear
from Nike. Have your ass in NYC on Nov. 7! That's why we're seeing this last
minute announcement....she's running for a contract renewal folks. That's the
real story.

If Paula quits again?...She'll be history w/Nike. They will not resign her.
Companies have problems with quitters. No, I don't expect her to win
NYC...this ain't Chicago and flat.

Sorry Doug, I can't get behind athletes that quite on the biggest stage in the
world and in the biggest moment (the Olympics).

About half the athletes in that field quit. Not just Radcliffe. Okayo also quit.

Those who called her the "favourite" were simply misguided IMO. The course
was always going to favor smaller runners who'd do better with hills and heat.
Radcliffe's best races were on fast courses, suited to a track runner.

bawling like a baby about how badly your cross country meet went.

Okayo ... and half the field ?

It is not unusual for elites to DNF in marathons. If you're already carrying
niggling injuries going into the race as it is, why risk further injury at
worst, or a prolonged recovery period at best ?

I don't think the problem is simply quitting. Do you think if kept
running and ran a 3:01 Nike would be happy? Like anyone under contract,
you have to not only finish but finish in the " money."

her head's in the right place. i honestly believe this last minute entry was
done so w/the urging of Nike. who knows...if she pulls it all together she can
easily set a new course record for women in NYC.
