Don't use mine in the hills, it's for car nav mostly, so usually have it
attached to the cigarette lighter, but I've found that it can be almost flat
in around 4 hours when not. The GPS seems to suck the power, as ever. When
I'm just using the Pocket PC the battery lasts much longer.

Bit late now I suppose, but I've been waiting for an all-in-one package like
the Mio A701. Bit pricey right now, but maybe in a year or two...

about three hrs constant use i would say
beware that if the unit goes totally flat you will lose everything on the
pda
it will turn off itself before it gets to that state
but if you leave it uncharged it will lose all data
beware of rain as well
i got mine wet oh the hill
and it was buggered
luckily it dried out on a radiator pver night

Are you using the PDA with something like Memory Map? If so do you have
to load MM onto a memorycard of some description?

In Memory Map there is a PDA menu (you might need to have active sync
installed/running for this to appear). To install MM on the PDA choose
"Install Pocket Navigator", you can then choose where on the PDA it is
installed (internal memory or a memory card). The menu also has options for
sending maps and sending and receiving marks, routes etc.

About 3 hrs. Go to Ebay.co.uk and searc for Mitac 168 battery extender.
These take 4xAA batteries , cost a few quid and will easily double this
time. You can also buy a v. high capacity LiIon battery
(http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=123164) and a usb charger for the
168 - more expensive but might do several days. Or a solar charger.

Realistically you might be better off with e.g. a Garmin GPS that takes AAs
