  1. So I've been having cravings for bbq/grilled Smokies all day...So I grilled
up a batch of jalapeno, fake cheese smokies, toasted the buns...served in
the bun with jraut and old cheddar cheese...Made a pig of myself and blew
off the low carb diet yet once again....

I'll make up for it tomorrow I got a salad for lunch....I'll put cheese
cubes and hard boiled egg slices in the salad...

How do you rationalize that just because you eat them with lettuce that
the fat calories in cheese and eggs are neutralized???

Good for you! Get back on track right away! But today's dinner sounds
    awesome!

Illness has kept my food intake down considerably for the past two
days. I'm not going to lose that progress by going high carb again.

Heehee! Someone else who has no knowlege of low carb, whatsoever.
    You're doing great, Alan!

Rationalize???I'm not a doctor nor play one on tv. OK Not eating carbs
keeps my Blood Glucose lower, and has made me lose roughly 5 lbs a
month...with months where no weight is lost. I've lost and kept off 65
lbs since august 2004 by just reducing my carb intake. But from time to
time I crave things and blow off the diet. Since january I've consumed 1
cup of cooked rice, scalloped potatoes, and gasp 4 hotdog buns on my
cravings. Usually I try and stay around 30 carbs a day. I believe that
    around 300 is the norm.

I'm a type 2 diabetic so I have to watch what I eat, eating less carbs is
what I have to do to keep my bg in line. As to the fat; because I have
less insulin in my blood when I'm low carbing it... I don't get the
plaque bluid up on the walls of my veins etc or on my optic or other
nerve cells...lowering the risks of blindness, stroke or limb loss. The
loss of weight is just a happy side effect. See the insulin mixes with
the fat making a kinda cookie dough effect (what they said to me in
diabetic school) which sticks to things. The fat isn't stored and also
doesn't affect my cholestral levels...which have improved since the 65 lb
weight loss so has my blood pressure. See insulin take excess carbs and
stores them as fat, in your body (well in my body). I am having
difficulties balancing my protien intake which is effecting my kidneys
but not too bad yet as I'm working on that...hence larger portions of
veggies ie the lettuce and smaller portions of proteins ie the cheese and
    eggs.

But if you only eat lean meat you'll starve to death; called rabbit
starvation...you need fat if low or no carbs are ingested to produce
glucose. I believe this is done by the liver which converts the protein
and fat into glucose. Relieving the stress on my insulin producing cells,
by eating less carbs allows them to limp along longer before they
actually quit. At which time I'll need insulin shots.

I'm sorry this upsets you (not), but it works for me and loads of other
type 2 diabetics. My doctor says I'm 1 of 3 of her many diabetic patients
that actually has made a long term difference in my condition and she is
proud of me. Which suprises me as I have little or no will power...hence
the diet blow off every several months. I'm off all medications and
usually just eat what my meter has shown me is good for my BG.

For a more comprehensive explaination check out the Diabetic newsgroups
or read books on diabetics...like I did. Like I said I'm not medically
qualified to truly explain this process as is noted by my lack of a
degree, spelling and writing skills. Damsel among others in this group
pointed me in this direction so perhaps she or they can aid your
    confusion.

Yeah I know...now comes the ethnic jokes, insults, slurs on my
intelligence and sexual comments from you so I'm signing off on this and
    won't reply further.

    Indeed... ;-)
Low fat dieting is SUCH a joke!
I went under 1,000 calories per day on low fat and GAINED weight.
My Endocrinologist was able to tell me exactly why. <G>

Really? There is at least ONE person here that has an opinion
about every conceivable topic. <vbg> You decide who.

    Insulin resistance is no joke.

Most people would call me a liar for making a claim like that.

    She knew better.

It's like the rest of the internet.
Look hard enough and you can read exactly whatever you are wanting to
agree with in the first place. ;-)

I need hard science, but I have the background to understand it,
and I can run free lab testing on myself as frequently as I want to.

But I limit it to once every 1 to 3 months and send the results to the
doc. I'm blessed with one that actually knows what she is doing...

and has had success with several people that I work with. We are her
    willing "guinea pigs". <G>

You can't gain weight on 1000 calories a day, even if they are ALL from
    high impact carbs.

I'd like to know the mechanism. LC is great, but LCers who make absurd
claims make people doubt its credibility.

    Not true.

    I weighed/measured and kept a food log.

    That keeps you honest.

Google for "severe insulin resistance" then combine it with a sedentary
    lifestyle and hypothyroidism.

I was literally falling asleep on my feet on a regular basis until I got
    treatment. Driving was dangerous.

Hey, when you're blessed with the correct opinion, you should
    share.
