I think you're underestimating him. As has been pointed out here, he has finished grand tours in the
past including he TDF. He stated (in his recent interview on cyclingnews.com) that he was really
upset when he was time cut in the Giro. He fought pretty hard just to finish what turned out to be
he hardest stage in the race. The group that finished just ahead of his made the cut, but his
didn't. I think this is what seperates him from Cipollini, and why I respect him a *lot* more.

That's nothing to scoff at, and it all added up to place him ahead of riders like Romans Vainsteins,
Sven Teutenberg, and Jan Svorada.

I don't think he's any better or worse in the mountains than he used to be. If you track his
previous results, they're consistent with the Giro and Vuelta performances this year.

in the Tour, but didn't have the extra condition to make it over the hills. The fact that he and the
rest of the team got sick nailed him for good.

Who cares about 17th place and 3rd place? What counts is the win, and unless you win, you are not
know as a "great sprinter". Points is a matter of consistency, in the placings, but it's better off
winning a stage than being 4th in the point standings.

Rodriguez took the points jersey after yesterday's victory. I would expect the winner today to
take it from Rodriguez. Petacchi remains 3rd... but there are lots and lots of nice flat stages
still to come.
