Jan Ullrich will race on a special high tech tires on the ITT Wednesday. The tire manufacturer
Continental's development department has come up with a new set of tires. They are prepared with a
special thinning liquid which is supposed to lower the rolling friction by 30 to 40 percent.
"This could mean a couple of seconds per kilometer", said Continental manager Michael Marx, who was
track world champion in 1983.
The engineers of Continental will come to Treviso to prepare the tires by hand, a process that will
take a couple of hours. The disadvantage is a shorter life span, but they should probably hold
together over the 50 kms of the World Championships. The tires were tested in the Vuelta recently
and seemed to work as Ullrich won.

Maybe he can combine that with a cigarette lighter built into his saddle. A little added propulsion.

Maybe it has something to do with Ullrich's nervousness in the starting gate.

Maybe this explains the fall. The tires didn't last until the end of the race, not crosswalk paint
or hydroplaning.
