If you actually do have nay self respect, then you'll do all
that is = necessary to take care of your body and health.
This shows not only good sense, = but respect for yourself,
and respect for Gods creation, YOU.

Medical professionals get quickly innured to the fact that
some body = parts may seem personal to their owners. they
know to treat people with respect = and dignity, and how to
peform the needed exams with the least discomfort to = you,
and don't themselves experience embarassment at having to
handle parts of= ones body that normal societal interactions
would not permit. Let them do = their jobs. They are doing
it for your good, not just to make money. To = assume that
the docs doing exams are all quacks is just plain poor
logic, and = not borne out by reality.

In my own case, having turned well past 50, I'm following
advice to get a colonoscopy. Now, I'm not even remotely of
that crowd of folks who finds= their back ends erotic. My
rear is normally reserved for just my own use, on = the
toilet. I'm quite thoroughly unenthused by the thought of
anyone poking anything in there. Yet, I'll have no trouble,
this coming monday, in = letting a doc I've not even yet
met, do exactly that, since I know full well that = he's
doing it for my own good, and the result will be greater
peace of mind = for me. I feel no risk of loss of dignity in
such a procedure, any more than I = did six years ago during
and following heart bypass surgery (in which a female =
surgical nurse I've only briefly met had to, for example,
insert a urinary = catheter, which was later removed (a
rather painful moment) by a quite routine male orderly.
Various other procedures during that time, not to mention =
opening up my chest like a filletted fish, were similarly
not things conducive to = great dignity. Yet everyone was
courteous and professional, and at no time did= I find my
self respect in any danger. And I'm quite of the opinion
that God has= no objection to our taking the best care we
can, with whatever means and = science is at our disposal,
of the bodies he's been good enough to give us. In = fact,
not to do so would seem to me to be discounting the value of
his work in = creating us.

I'm not going to get into the material of the thread,
but I just want to point out that the line above was
coined by Benjamin Franklin. It's not from the Bible.
Not that I necessarily disagree with it, but it drives
me nuts when people think that every familiar phrase
must be from the Bible.
