Since you've bought so many of the Fiestaware, I'm wondering what your
thoughts are regarding the safety of eating in these bowls with this
pinhead flaw.

Oh, I missed this post before, Dee, hence my moments ago question about it.

I've see this type of blemish on the outside or underside of some of the
Fiestaware pieces, but never on the interior. Are these vintage pieces or
new?

I doubt it's harmful to use as is, since the clay is not toxic and it is
high-fired.

Yes, these are brand-new. So they say -- they look brand new, but you never
know - but they don't tout them as anything but brand-new. They have
stamped on the bottom "Homer Laughlin Company and Lead Free." the pink
one's stamp is rather blurry looking vs. the turquoise one which is more
legible.

Then I am sure they are new. I have to say that even though I love my
Fiestaware, both old and new, Homer Laughlin Company doesn't produce
flawless pieces, although with a flaw on the eating surface, I'm wondering
if there's a chance if they are "seconds". As I said, I have similar flaws
on the outside surface and bottom of a few pieces. Still, they would be
safe to use. AFAIK, all American made dishware must be made from non toxic
clay and glazes.

Thanks, Wayne. They also might be ones that people have returned that they
didn't want because of this 'pimple.' I know I wouldn't buy it if I saw it
first. Maybe they are seconds that weren't caught at the factory and then
returned and then sold to Amazon. Who knows. I'll sit on it and see how
the rest of my order turns out. Waaahhh! Right now they are sitting here
annoying the heck out of me - tee hee.

I would call them and ask for a Return Authorization Number (RAN) and a
prepaid shipping label. What they do is send you a label that you can
put on the package and lets you return merchandise at no cost to you. I
did this with a National Geographic purchase I made right before xmas
and it too came damaged. It's still a pain in the butt but what the
heck that's $24 worth of bowls your talking about and why keep them if
your in doubt that they are safe to eat off of.

Thanks for your info. One time I did get the RAN and a prepaid shipping
label. But they adjusted my cost and I owed them more because of the item
that was returned brought the price down to the point where it it was no
longer 'free shipping." Explanation:

My free shipping amounted to $22, but if I send these back and no longer
keep them, then my $136 (goods ordered) shipment will be $111 which is under
the $125; then I will owe the $22 shipping. This is the way it works and
I'm afraid I'm stuck. But I knew how it worked before I ordered.

Yes, that's what I wanted to do with a container that was cracked. - No
such luck. There is an adjustment to our original order, which turned out
to be the same scenario as I described. We covered all bases and found that
there was just no way.

What you are suggesting is the most common-sense business way to do it. We
wanted to send them email a picture of the defect so we wouldn't have to
return it, but they said, no. Later I see the reason. It's a credit and
debit system, and we are just on the wrong side of the column -- ha ha!
