  1. It is me again looking for more great ideas. Thanks to all who gave me new dining out ideas and for
all of your support. They were great and I printed and used them all. I really loved the one about
the salt and taking the food to the car right away. I hadn't thought of that. I am not a new leader,
but am always looking for new ideas. I have been teaching for four years at Weight Watchers. If
anyone wants to give me any input, the topic for the week coming up is on portion control. How do
you stay within your portions and how do you refuse seconds, thirds, etc., and how do you determine
portions when not in your own kitchen. I am always grateful for any advice I receive so thanks to
all in advance!!! Good luck on all of your weigh-ins in the upcoming week. I hope everyone on this
newsgroup loses at least 2 pounds this week!!! Cynthia

  2. My way of controling portions is to weigh and measure everything. I'm not good at guessing how many
    ounces something is.

As for controlling 2nds, etc we solve that problem by only cooking enough food for 1 meal.
Occasionlly there' s veggies left over and tonight there was an extra piece of chicken which I put
away for lunch tomorrow. Another idea is to up on green veggies instead of rice or pasta so there's
    less room for junk.

  3. because we do eat out on a regular basis, When we are home, almost all food
is weighed/measured fanatically. DH then is so familiar with the sizes it
is hard to over portion. I also have measured the dishes we normally eat
from so I know thisglass filled to a certain point is this much, this bowl
holds this many half cups of green beans. This works really well and is
easy to translate if you are not in your own home, Lee

  4. In my own kitchen:

Serve the meal from the stove...no tempting morsels on the table after I've eaten my serving size.
Serve my kids the right amount so I'm not tempted to eat from their plates either. They can get
seconds if they are really hungry. Get my hubby to clear up the dishes and put away the
leftovers...he is less likely to pick at the food. Always have a salad. Satisfies my urge to eat for
a long time without lots of calories. Always measure pasta.

    At a restaurant:

Order everything with a garden salad with the dressing on the side. Use the rules from week 2. Deck
of cards for meat. etc Don't order pasta...can't control portions of it ;-). Portion out the food
when it first comes and decide how much you are going to eat and as soon as that is done ask for
the rest to be boxed up. Share meals. Eat meals that you can eat the whole thing of. Chicken breast
    with salad.

  5. A good trick that I learned when raising my kids (which I didn't put into practice for myself until
joining ww) is to use a smaller size plate for dinner ... such as a luncheon sized plate. Putting
the smaller, reasonable portions on a smaller plate will make it appear full. You will THINK you are
eating the same as everyone else. It's a visual game. <G> I've heard others say they divide their
plates into sections, such as filling 2/4 of the plate with veggies, 1/4 with potato/rice/whatever
and the last 1/4 with protein/lean meat.

I have never refused seconds ... if I want them. I eat slow, so usually am not down with my first
plate when the rest of the family has finished. What I do though, is to only take about a half
serving of the main entree ... like 2 oz of chicken or whatever, fill the rest of the plate with
loads of veggies. If I want more then I don't feel guilty going back for more, and it still is well
within my limit. I cut my food very small, making it appear as if there is more there. Again, for me
it's all a visual game. When not in my own kitchen there isn't much I do other than use common
sense. I take small helpings and do not go back for more. I eat slowly, enjoy the company and
conversation. I tell myself that I can always fix a healthier snack once I return home IF I find I
    am still hungry.

Thanks for the well wishes of everyone losing 2 pounds this week ... but remember ... not all of us
here are trying or want to lose weight. Many of us are practicing the maintenance plan. <grin>

  6. My leader yesterday said that a typical order of pasta (not a side dish) was 5 servings. I rarely
order pasta dishes but this put an end to it completely.
