Post BAC different major

Hi Alex,

Either of your MCAT ideas are good depending on your level
of confidence with bio, chem, and physics. Some programs
might actually prefer that you *take* the classes. That info
would be available from the admissions offices of the
schools you're interested in applying to.

That academic stuff aside, it would be best for you to try
some patient interaction in a volunteer (or other) capacity
to see if you like it, initially, and to prove to admissions
committees that you've done and liked it (if you do).

Hey Karl, Thanks for your reply. I think I'm better off
going Post Bac because these schools make it mandatory that
you volunteer at hospitals, well at least at the schools I'm
looking at. So you're right, if I apply, since I haven't
ever done anything at a hospital except visit my sick aunt,
I should do post bac. You have anymore advice on getting to
med school ?

If you do not have the pre-med classes necessary for
entrance to med school you first need to get them. The mcat
will test you on the concepts learned in these classes, the
classes are full year with lab in organic chem, inorganic
(general) chem, physics (trig based), and general biology.
Then and only then do you take the mcat.

Yeah I'm going post bac to take the classes and refresh my
mind on the others... Any other advice??

Just make sure you have all the other things that adcoms
will expect to see such as volunteering, EC's, great
lor...The process is highly competitive and with 35,000
folks applying for about 14,500 slots (give or take some) it
can get somewhat competitive. Maintain the highest gpa
possible and rock the mcat. Good luck.

do not take the "MCAT" for practice or to see what you don't
know... those scores will follow you around. a master's in
computer science will not have adequately prepared you for
this exam -- and you don't need adequate scores, you need to
excel on this exam. go back and take your prerequisite
courses -- and ace 'em.
