  1. Okay, not really a quiz (no one will be graded!), just an attempt to occupy
my mind this morning. So, potato chips...

    1. What's brand do you prefer?
    a. Is it a local /home town/regional brand or internationally known?

    2. "Kettle" chips or regular?

    3. Smooth or ripple chips?

    4. Do you like "baked" chips (like Baked Lays or Pringles, which, granted,
    aren't technically potato chips)?

    5. Do you like unsalted potato chips?

    6. Plain or seasoned?
    a. Plain
    b. BBQ
    c. Sour Cream/Onion
    d. Cheese
    e. Vinegar & Salt

    7. Have you ever made your own potato chips?

    8. If yes to question #7, how did you slice them?
    a. Mandoline
    b. Knife
    c. Food Processor

    9. Can you really only eat just one? <G>

I don't have any potato chips but I think I'll make some home fries to go
    with breakfast 😉

Wise, used to be the low sodium but back to the regular.
Low started to be more like no ... potato chips gotta have
    salt.

I wouldn't slap someone who gave me any of the above.

I had some baked ones at my brother's place down the
shore, they were surprisingly good. Having said that, I
    forget the brand.

    a. Plain

Yes. With plain sour cream is just fine with me. Or
    without.

    Quoted message said:

    b. BBQ

Tastes quite metallic to me, my teeth want to curl

    7. Have you ever made your own potato chips?

Anything I would make that one would think of as
potato chips, wouldn't *be* potato chips, to me.
In other words, potato chips come in a bag from the
    store.

I know I told this story already; my mil's father was
an entrepreneur from Italy, he found a way to make
potato chips in his garage, my mil's job was to bag them
up to sell in their little produce store downstairs.

Some people from Boston came and bought his
potato chip business. Sad say in the house for her.

Makes me laugh, that building, the family home hand
built by her father, it's not on a dirt road any longer, it's
on Route 1&9 in Elizabeth, NJ.

As an aside, we sold the house to some guy who opened
a restaurant next door. Drove by it on Christmas, darned
if he hasn't resided the house and breathed new life into
    the old place.

    Quoted message said:

    Sometimes.

Jalapeno kettle chips (not jalapeno and cheddar.) Second favorite is
    just plain ripple-cut, like "Ruffles".

I did try making my own potato chips once upon a time, but they turned
out too greasy and I haven't tried it again. I used my trusty worn-thin
vegetable peeler. I don't know what I'll do when it eventually wears
thru and breaks because new peelers are nowhere near as sharp and a worn
    out one.

Have tried, but can't say I particularly like, some of the Herr's brand
chips....dill pickle, ketchup, Coney Island Hot Dog, Steak and Onion (I
think? it was something to do w/ steak). The dill pickle are the best of
    these.

I have, but most of the time I eat *way* more than one. I try to stay away
from them (but that's ok, absence makes the heart grow fonder). It used to
be that when you ordered a sandwich in a restaurant, you got chips with it
(fries were extra). Who knows, maybe it's still that way -- I don't eat out
much anymore. Those were always lousy chips, anyway.

Aha! You snared me into having egg-a-cup the other day, but I can resist
breakfast potatoes quite easily, my dear. Besides, I already had a bagel
(w/ cream cheese and strawberry jelly).

Truly. Appears to be a house brand for Zeller's, a subsidiary of the

    7. Have you ever made your own potato chips?

Not yet, been meaning to try it some day.

    Quoted message said:

    8. If yes to question #7, how did you slice them?
    a. Mandoline
    b. Knife
    c. Food Processor

I imagine I would either use my Benriner (mandoline-like
    tool) or the food processor.

    9. Can you really only eat just one? <G>

Well, maybe, if someone shoots you dead just as you
    swallow the first one. ;-)

I don't have any potato chips but I think I'll make some home fries to go
    with breakfast 😉

Yum, now you got me craving 'em.

Okay, not really a quiz (no one will be graded!), just an attempt to occupy
my mind this morning. So, potato chips...

    1. What's brand do you prefer?
    a. Is it a local /home town/regional brand or internationally known?

Ooh, I just remembered about Route 11 Potato Chips in
Middletown, VA. They're just local to the area or
regional. I think they do mail order. I've only had
them when I was in the area. Went to the factory and
bought them. They are awesome! Wish they sold them in
Pgh. I can't really justify spending the money to buy
    them mail order. :-(

    known?

Jay's, Utz, and "foreign chips" particularly German style "paprika
chips" and Japanese BBQ. (oddly, they are similar)

    Quoted message said:

    2. "Kettle" chips or regular?

    Regular

    Quoted message said:

    3. Smooth or ripple chips?

Smooth and as thin as possible.

    Quoted message said:

    4. Do you like "baked" chips (like Baked Lays or Pringles, which,
    granted, aren't technically potato chips)?

Baked - no, ick. Pringles? only if there is alcohol involved.

    Quoted message said:

    5. Do you like unsalted potato chips?

Yes - I guess I am in the minority here. Most of what I buy is Jay's
unsalted. I just they weren't so hard to find.

    Quoted message said:

    6. Plain or seasoned?
    a. Plain

    Quoted message said:

    f. Other: See above - German paprika and Japanese BBQ

    Quoted message said:

    7. Have you ever made your own potato chips?

Yes, both at home and when I worked in a restaurant. Unfortunately, it is
hard, even with an oversized fry-daddy to have enough room to make chips
that can compare with the fry machines in restaurants, so I gave up
making them at home. They came out well, but it wasn't really worth the
    hassle and the mess.

    Quoted message said:

    8. If yes to question #7, how did you slice them?
    a. Mandoline
    b. Knife

    (d.) Restaurant grade meat slicer

    Quoted message said:

    9. Can you really only eat just one? <G>

Love 'em. Even though I think some of the less popular flavors - pizza,
chili, and such - are an affront against nature, I still have problems
resisting. Moreover, after making them from scratch in ideal conditions
in a restaurant, they can be superb.

ooooh. I like home fries too.

    DuPont connection.

I rarely ever eat them any more...for 3 reasons, 2 of which are health
    related 🙂
When I was younger, I liked Pringles now and then, but really, if I was
having potato chips, I was gonna have Old Dutch. I don't see them as much
here in CA, but in Minnie-Soda they were the chip.

I dislike Kettle chips..too hard!! Regular.

Depends...am I dipping the chips? 😉 I prefered smooth, but used Ripple for
    heavier dips.

C! Preferably with Top the Tater (another thing I can't find here in Sandy
    Eggo)

We used the old mandoline with the plastic box underneath to catch the cut
    veggies/fruits.

Fun post, Jill! When I was a kid, potato chips were great. Nowadays, they
are too damaging to my blood sugars and like I said, no Top the Tater here
in good old SoCal, so nothing good to dip them in ;-) lol.
Can't get puffcorn here either :/ hehe
