I remember as a child we drank powdered milk. My mother would mix it,
don't know what the measurements were, and then add a can of condensed
milk to make it richer. Oh gawd, it's a wonder I love milk as much as
I do as that [censored] was disgusting! A girl at work also drank it as a
child, but she said they didn't have the luxury of a can of condensed
milk.

Unless you live out in the boonies, just stop by a curb market and buy
a gallon of milk on your way home from work. If this is too much of an
inconvenience, or you don't work outside of the home, I would buy a cow
and tether it outside before I would resort to drinking that stuff.

No, I have never heard of anyone liking to drink powdered milk. Many
years ago I had to drink powdered milk when my small Alaskan town was
too isolated by winter to get fresh milk. We would mix it in small
quantities and chill it for at least an hour before drinking. It
didn't really help, but colder things have less taste than warmer.
There were, I think, two or three different brands back then but none
of them was any good.

You don't have a need for it, anyway. You just need to find a place
where it's convenient and fast for you to stop in and buy a gallon of
the real stuff. -aem

box doesn't need refrigeration and tastes O.K. for those times when the

That is just one brand name of the high temp processed "bricks" of milk.
I forget the accurate name, and I'm sure someone here will know it?
We used to buy them in Europe years before they were found so readily
back here in the US. They're great to keep on hand, yet don't have as
long as shelf life as canned. I find them handy for use in cooking, when
my fresh milk supplies are low and I'm not going out to buy more at that
time.

Try mixing half milk and half powdered milk made w/water to give you a
full gallon when you get low.

several of my local supermarkets have whole milk available by the half gallon
in card board containers that have a four week fridge life according to the
expiration date. surely you can drag yourself to the super market once a
month.

I remember "milk man" powdered milk "with a kiss of cream" was excellent.
Do they still sell it? I quit drinking milk years ago so have not gone
looking.

For dairy calcium, I eat cottage cheese and yogurt. It's a better source.

I happen to have a box in the pantry. The one I have on hand is Borden...
and yes it's real milk. IIRC, it was $1.49 for 32 ounces.

found it. (Googling on "milk foil box" was amusing, but ultimately
unfruitful.) It turns out that there are lots of articles about
bankruptcy and a scandal in the company, not as much on the product itself.

I take some medicine on occasion that has to be taken with milk or with
food of some kind. I can't predict when I'll need it. Usually this
isn't a problem since there's always a convenience store or somewhere I
can get ice cream. One time, however, I needed milk just as I was
boarding an airplane. Talk about inconvenient! I had the medicine, but
where was I going to find a meal there? I explained the problem to the
flight attendant who was, at that moment, busy with a thousand other
things and not in the mood to deal with one whiny passenger who suddenly
wanted food. (I didn't think of myself as whiny, but from her point of
view, what else could I be?) She brought me Parlamat, and it did the
trick. I'm still grateful to her. I didn't think the taste was as good
as fresh milk from the supermarket, but it was fine, not bad at all and
what the original poster needs in a pinch, better than powdered, anyway.

I'm sorry, I made more work for you. We were having violent thunderstorms
and I was having trouble staying connected long enough to send a note,
never mind make sure of my spelling. Parmalot looked wrong, I gambled on
the wrong vowel change. Anyway, it's the brand I see around
here (when I do see it, I don't look for it), I wasn't sure if there were
other
brands.

Likely you aren't thawing it long enough. Give it more time to thaw out
and you won't notice a difference.

None of the powdered milk products come close to milk.

IMO powdered milk sucks. Even my dog will not drink the [censored] when mixed
with water. There is a milk product that will keep but I can't recall the
name of it. I've used it once in awhile and it's not too bad. I think it
is Pam(can't remember the rest of the name).

We drank powdered milk when I was a kid too.
It was a lot more affordable than "fresh milk".

Recently, I looked for a box of "powdered"
for some bread recipes.
I was shocked at the high price.
What happened ?
