false.
You are wrong, just look at all the other posts in this thread, every single
one agrees with me on that point, if not the rest.
According to Tim Noakes (Lore of Running 4th edition) ..."the risks of
eating a high-carbohydrate meal shortly (15 to 45 minutes) before
exercise may have been overemphasized. Nevertheless, some people are
extremely sensitive to this phenomenon."
Further more: "In contrast, strong evidence suggests that ingesting food
45 minutes to 4 hours before exercise may enhance performance ... by
providing an additional store of carbohydrate in the intestine that is
used at a constant rate during subsequent exercise."
This is from page 131.
The section also goes into high GI (glycemic index) and low GI foods and
describes how it is better to use low GI foods before a run. It also
mentions using fat (butter or margarine but peanut butter is not
mentioned) to reduce "the glycemic response to ingestion of the
carbohydrate." (page 130)
I remember seeing an article in Runner's World about eating half a bagel
with peanut butter on it for this reason.
Anyways, it is an interesting section of the book and it is evident that
for some of us there is a benefit and for others there is no benefit.
