YES
Drill the hole out to fit the valve. Been
there done that and it works fine.

Ya got it abckwards Craz. He wants to go to the smaller presta valve
stem. No need to drill. Grommets are available to fill the space and
avoid pinches.

The grommet is not necessary. At MTB pressures, a tube will be fine with
the rim strip in place.

Wouldnt ride like that for a long time, I run mine at 30-35psi and have
had the tyre move about on the rim and enuogh to wear a hole in the
valve base.

Okay sorry done that one too. Matter of fact its on my
go to work bike. And all I do is put the nut on and trighten it all the
way to the rim. Been like that for years and years

Some brands of presta tubes come with a nut that has a rabbet that fits
down into a schrader rim hole. I have a few that I use on my cruiser
bikes when I run out of schrader tubes.
