Just like most jobs, salary depends on experience and results (not just individual results). The question is hard to answer because there are different levels of professionals like pro-tour teams or continental teams. According to the site below, Pro Tour riders get a minimum of around 33,000 euros (42,000 U.S) a year. The average for a Pro Team rider is 190,000 euros (243,000 U.S), but you have to think that riders like Contador, with huge salaries, really drive up that average salary.

Pro Tour racers earn a minimum wage of 33,000 euros. "Neo-professional riders in the Professional Coninental ranks" earn 23,000 euros. I was specifically talking about Pro Tour riders when I responded to the original post. Didn't want to get into all the other ranks of professionals in cycling.

According to this month's bicycling magazine, middle of the pack female riders might earn a whopping $25,000 USD.

And if you start looking at just the US domestic females then you're talking a lot less. Same with the US domestic men's teams. They don't call it the $12k dream for no reason!
