Who where involved and what led up to it? Will the shover be penalized?

Liggett did and commented that the rider should be disqualified. My wife
caught it (I was too busy reading rbr!). She thought they appeared to be
from the same team (!) (aerial view) but wasn't sure.

One of the Cofidis riders pushed the Domina Vacanze guy (Secchiari?) out of
the way.

He was getting in the way of the chase - that doesn't often happen in pro
racing, and the chasing teams get annoyed when it does. Whoever did the
pushing didn't get penalised.

It looked like basic "blocking" of the chasing peloton by the
teammates of a rider up the road. The idea is the teammates get into
the line in the front of the pack, and then start to leave little
gaps, or get to the front and slow down ever so slightly, or disrupts
the rhythm by slowing and speeding up... all of this stuff makes it
harder to efficiently reel in a breakaway, although it takes a ton of
energy to do well.

Now, Bob Roll said it was unsporting of the Domina Vacanze rider who
was trying to "block" (and eventually got shoved away by one of the
chasing teams' riders). In contrast, every book on cycling tactics
I've ever seen says that blocking is a normal part of racing.
