Glossing over all that for a moment, have any of you uk rec walkers
been walking over here in the Pyrénées?

I live on the east coast and, between here and the west coast, there
must be walks to cater for pretty much every level of ambling,
    orienteering and climbing.

I'm ashamed to say that, in the four years I've been here, I have yet
to get to the top of our local mountain. I have slid down bits of it
on my [censored], though, in a stream (http://tinyurl.com/9oha7). Which was
    nice.

By God, that looks cold. Especially the second one.

Is that you in the photos, or some other pillock?

    No, that's some other pillock.

We were wearing 7mm hooded semi-drys, so it wasn't too bad - the climb
back up out of the valley was bloody hot, by contrast.

I went 'canyonying' partly as moral support for a friend who wanted to
go, and partly to defy my own fear of heights.

I'm not sure how much moral support I gave as I stood knock-kneed and
shivering at the top of a 7 meter jump into a rock-pool.

I only jumped because I felt that I'd be less embarrassed being
winched off the mountain if I had several broken legs or something.

I can imagine. People have proposed wearing dry- or wet-suits for Tough
Guy, which would be fine for the water obstacles but would probably kill
    you for the running/climbing/jumping stuff.

Ah. *That's* what it's called. I once saw people doing something similar
round here, but just assumed it was some form of temporary madness,
    rather than an actual sport.

You seem to have quoted me without adding anything... bit too much
    celebration last night?

    Anyway - happy new year!

Can anyone see the oxymoron here?
