Yep. Nope. As it turns out, my company buys internet access from a
provider that doesn't provide usenet service. IOW, not all ISPs (only
the decent ones) provide usenet access.

However, there are a number of usenet services available. If you can
afford to buy a computer, you can almost certainly afford to buy
usenet access; I do it so I can get usenet at work, in addition to the
"free" access I have at home.

Which assumes one is accessing the internet from a computer they *bought*.

Although less so than in the past, I can go weeks at a time solely using
computers and internet access provided by others. For example, next week I
will be in Spain and the following week in rural Tennessee - in both cases
accessing the internet via a succession of corporate and hotel resources
which do not provide usenet feeds.

To bring this back to original post, it is a bad assumption to think that
people use web-based usenet interfaces only because they are lame.

Well, yes. And you could argue that "sick" means "bad," and since "bad"
means "good," then "sick" means "good." But from what I understand of
