Actually I would agree, consumption needs to be vastly restricted.

yeah, prohibition works so well, twit!

whats conservation got to do with alcohol? I noticed the greens were
anti booze on one occasion I read some of thier stuff.

both booze and people are easy to replace, whats the problem?

What's alcohol got to do with anything? People who get drunk and cause
trouble are the type of people who cause trouble anyway. Alcohol isn't
the cause, and I'm fed up with people who try to demonise it. Attack
the thugs by all means, just as long as you don't bugger things up for
the decent guys having a few pints down the pub on a Friday night.

I saw a big gang of sub teenage thugs fighting the other week, I doubt
they were drunk, when someone went down they all kicked him. Scum if
you ask me, probably worse when drunken scum, but its the lack of
upbringing and disciplined schooling that's the problem.

This may sound simplistic, daft, or simply "wrong", but I put much of it
down to the change from School MASTERS, to mere "teachers".

With their hands tied behind their backs. Britain wastes an astonishing
amount of money in trying to educate those who, for the most part,
    actively resist being educated.

We should not be forcing education on students. We should be working
towards creating a society where skills mean rewards and not doling out
money unless people at least trade their time. That way the kids will
be begging for the education and we'll start getting value for money.

It's some of the decent guys that go down the pub and come out thugs up

Not entirely sure I know what you're saying there, although the gist
of it appears to be that people go in fine and come out monsters.
Sorry, that's just not true, and is the common myth perpetuated by
those hell-bent on prohibition. In my experience anyone who causes
trouble when they are drunk is a pain in the rear end when sober too.
If it's not in someone's nature to be a thug they won't start being
    one after several drinks.

You obviously don't watch TV, read the papers or see the news, or
perhaps just go to bed too early, and obviously live in the middle of
    nowhere!

Google on drunk violence, or binge drinking. On an average night
drunken, anti social behaviour accounts for up to 85% of police time.

It's not the social drinking that's the problem, it's the anti social
    one!

I have to agree with Simon here. This country (and other countries, but
certainly NOT all countries) has a culture problem. It is seen as ok to go
down the pub and get rat arsed which only has the effect of showing the rest
of society what you are made of. I've got [censored], like Mike and probably
many others, but never descended into mindless violence either. Why do
people have to do this?? Blame it on the drink if you want but I blame it on
those who just need the excuse.

Stick them in the Army for a year! In fact what a great way to recruit.
Anyone found behaving like a [censored] under the influence can do a year in
    Afghanistan.

low levels of violence in 30s and 50s after wiping out the hotheads in
two world wars? Probably more subtle than that :-)

Partly but the decline was accelerated by 'realistic' television. A
generation influenced by Grange Hill wasn't going to respect their
teachers even before the teachers tried to ingratiate themselves with
their new masters by being on first name terms with them.

In today's topsy-turvy world respect is something due only to young
thugs and the old are there to be mugged, not listened to.

The army does not want the dregs of society foisted upon it! That's why
it opposes conscription and prefers to recruit.

Simon, we could cut all this unproductive discussion if you just read
what I wrote. I said "some decent" not all decent folk. I'm sure there
are those who are prone to get [censored] and want to fight and be rowdy
wherever you go but there are some folk who are perfectly decent when
sober but grow horns after a few too many bevvies.

Erm, who's to enforce the laws? You can make as many laws as you like,
