He needs to google for toxicology pre-employment drugs screens. There
are only 8 common classes of "drugs of abuse" that are tested for.

They do not screen for nutritional supplements, nor many "sports
supplements".

Only the IOC is that paranoid. :-P

Just a thought, would Ephedra or Ephedrine show up on a drug test?
Maybe as meth?

Some of the monoclonal antibody style drug screens will cross react
herbal Ephedrine alkaloids with Amphetamines.... There was a product
warning issued for the "Triage" brand drug screens used by a lot of
hospital labs for that issue. Followups with more sensitive testing
would show it as a false positive.

It IS something to be aware of!

Mini-thins don't cross react with "Triage". I know. I checked it out
with that kit at work. ;-) It may cross react with other screening kits
tho'.

Well, both me and a co-worker tested it.
Mini-thins (pure Ephedrine HCL) did not react with the Amphetamine
indicator.

The HERBAL ones, also sold at truck stops, did!
The "ingredients" listed Ephedrine alkaloids instead of Ephedrine HCL.
I guess the chemical makeup was different enough.

Last time I got tapped for a random drug screen at work when I was using
those, I told the employee health nurse and listed it in the OTC drugs I
was taking and told them that it reacted with the Triage kit.

My drug screen came back negative, so I guess it depends on the test
methodology.

Depends on the drug test. It'll show up in a WADA test as ephedrine.
